WASHINGTON - Personal computers, cell phones and high-speed Internet are considered essential to getting by for millions of Americans who are showing early signs of addiction to the next wave of high-tech toys, an AP-Ipsos poll found.

The latest wave includes MP3 players like iPods — popular with everyone from the kid next door to President Bush — high-definition television and digital video recorders like TiVo.

Some people freely admit to being high-tech junkies.

I am addicted to PC's and whatnot.. but I care nothing about I-pods.. Only reason I would use one would be to hook up to my car stereo.. but I think I would rather have XM. - or just an MP3 player in the dash, easy to rip a bunch of tunes onto a CD.

I'd have said the same not too many months ago, but damn have I got used to having an SD and a USB slot in my dash.

takes seconds to whack my usb stick in, throw a few albums on, and I'm good to go.

i don't like driving my gf's (much newer, better) car just because I have to make sure I have cd's with me, whereas I always have my flash in my pocket.

and tell me you don't use a mobile every now and again..


oh, just btw, I'm not american, I just appreciate some of the more positive impacts technology has had on my life

hehe- I hate cell phones too.. never owned one, never will unless I absolutely need to for work or something. My wife doesn't have one either.. if they need to get in touch, they can wait till I get there, or wait till I get home.. or e-mail me.

AMEN, Brother BWX. They're pretty useless imo. But people just love to spend lots of time on them talking nothing but crap If I need to make a call, I'll use a payphone.

i hate gadgets, nothing but worthless gimmicks most times. closest thing i have would be a 128meg usb flash drive, and its not like that thing ever gets used.

cellphones? meh... if i could find a plan that was about 10 bucks a month for 100 mins or so, and didnt have text/camera/flip/LCD/2-way/etc, i might get one just to have incase of emergencies.

cd player in my car, ya some day ill put a nice one in it. right now, im getting by just fine with a portable cd player that reads MP3 cd's and a cassette/cd adapter. i get by just fine with that.
