Source Engine Goes 64-Bit
We received this press release from Valve Software, announcing that the Half-Life 2 developer has hooked up with AMD to create a 64-bit version of the Source Engine. Available through Steam right now are 64-bit versions of Half-Life 2 and Lost Coast. Steam automatically knows what OS you are running (so yeah, you need Win x64 for this) and will launch the appropriate game build.
"Bringing the Source technology to the AMD64 processor platform is an important step in the evolution of our game content and tools," said Gabe Newell, Valve's co-founder and president. "This investment in future processing will allow us, and third party developers working with Source, to push the boundaries of the gaming experience."Source: Shack News

good news, I wonder what sort of changes we can expect from a 64-bit version of HL2.

hdr is graphic hardware based, so x64 version shouldnt be any diff. Im guessing that systems with 2gb of ram or more will significantly have improved loading times and ability to run bigger levels.

Just go to Newegg and buy the OEM w/ a cheap ass nic card or modem. You should even be able to buy a cheap CPU fan. Or is there another reason why you want the retail? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16837102034

I would have stuck w/ x64 had there been ANY driver support for TV tuner cards (ESPECIALLY ATI TV TUNERS!) and some form of way to deal with StarForce (as it is NOT compatable w/ x64) so cost me the use of many games
