Kodak packs wide-angle and zoom lens into V570 digital camera
Las Vegas (NV) - Kodak claims that it has developed the first dual-lens digital still camera. The Easyshare V570, to be demonstrated at CES 2006, combines the functionality of an "ultra" wide-angle and an optical zoom in the form factor of a compact snapshot camera.
The growing amount of users who have collected some experience with digital still cameras (DSCs) and are looking for more features without having to deal with the complexity of a digital SLR camera, have another option with Kodak's V570 device. The camera is positioned between the high-end of the firm's regular Easyshare family and the Wi-Fi-equipped Easyshare One. For about $400, buyers get solid features such as a 5-megapixel image resolution plus a unique, dual-lens that offers a wide-angle capability. The proprietary technology, named "Retina," enables users of the point-and-shoot camera to take advantage of a 3x optical zoom (39 - 117 mm) as well as a wide-angle lens that reaches to 23 mm and allows the creation of 180-degree panoramic pictures with three shots. According to the manufacturer, both all-glass lenses are completely integrated into the camera body and never extend from the casing. The functionality of an optical zoom and wide-angle is uncommon in this segment and typically is only available to users of more expensive digital SLRs with interchangeable lenses. The V570 also offers video recording in Quicktime format and MPEG4 compression and resolutions up to 640 x 480 pixel at 30 fps as well as automation features such as correction to compensate for ultra-wide angle fish-eye effects, on-camera cropping, picture blur alert and auto picture rotation. The standard equipment of the camera also includes 32 MByte built-in Flash memory, which is enough to store about 1- pictures in highest resolution. The V570 supports MMC and SD memory cards as storage media. The camera will be available in January. CES 2006 opens on January 5. _____________ Source: TG Daily |
