CES 2006: Phone-line networking not dead...its "just resting"
Las Vegas (NV) - Phone line networking was hot in the late 90's but virtually disappeared with the rise of wireless and powerline networking. But the HomePNA alliance today four new members and an important addition to its board or directors.
Entone, Tatung, Amino, and TII Networks have joined as new members and Scientific-Atlanta has signed on to the trade organization's Board of Directors. HomePNA is trying to rally support behind its HomePNA 3.0 standard in the battle for its place in set top box and other IPTV gear. But HomePNA 3.0 will more be likely to use home coax instead of phone wiring for in-home "triple-play" services. Coax-based delivery, in fact, seems to be in fashion at this year's CES, with both Scientific Atlanta and Motorola using different forms of it in their new set top boxes. But as we reported previously, Scientific Atlanta doesn't appear to be using HomePNA 3.0 in its just-announced STB. __________ Source: TG Daily |
