Our first mod (or, as the case may be, your second or fifth) is complete. It's a proud trophy to show your friends and relatives: a spiffy two-tone PC lit up inside to proudly show its impressive entrails; gawkers can "ooh" and "ah" at the graphics card, the UV reactive cables, the glowing fans.

When you show it off, fellow modders will evaluate it and comment on it, perhaps suggesting ways to make it even more impressive. How about window gaskets? What about a cool laser etch on the plastic? Why not replace the LEDs with some boasting more impressive colors? Don't worry, we'll get to that.

Today, we're going to tackle the question that non-modders, those poor souls who think PCs are just tools and not toys, who often ask when you unveil your creation to their wide-eyed amazement. "Why?" As in, "Why would you actually spend time and money cutting up and painting a perfectly respectable and functional computer case?"
