ATI's Radeon X1900XT Check and Mate @ DailyTech

Even though the official launch of Radeon X1900 is not until next week, one of our writers in Taiwan was able to over-night a card back to our labs. There are two standalone versions of Radeon X1900; the Radeon X1900XT and the Radeon X1900XTX. The X1900XTX is essentially the same card as the X1900XT, but with slightly higher clock speeds. One tier one AIB told us ATI switched from the “Platinum Edition” to the “XTX” naming due to the low quantity stigma associated with Platinum Edition. Finally, there is also a Radeon X1900 CF (CrossFire) card expected at launch as well. This card has the same core clocks as the X1900XT, but replaces some of the outputs with a VHDCI connector for CrossFire support. ATI’s low end cards support CrossFire directly over the PCIe bus, but X1900 will unfortunately require the bulky cable. Radeon X1900XT and Radeon X1900XTX come with twin DVI outputs, but a dongle comes with the retail card can convert the DVI signal to VGA instead.

Thanks for putting this up! I was just about to head out the door to buy a 1800xt. Seriously!

I think I'll wait a few weeks a nd see what turns up at the PC shop.

I'll wager that the Aussie dollar price for the 1900xtx will be around $1100 though - Ouch!

Honestly, those scores are impressive, but not that impressive. i was really expecting something better than that. We'll have to wait and see what other reviews say.

I thought it interesting that they were forced to use beta drivers from December for the test. Particularly with the 6.1's only being released a few days prior to launch, and yet they couldn't "see" the card?

I hope this isn't going to be another "soft launch'.

Maybe I should go and grab an 1800xt .

I can't imagine ATI would make the soft launch mistake again (but I also wouldn't put it past them).
If I were you, I'll look at the price and go with the best value. If the 1900 is way more expensive than the 1800, I'd go with the 1800, its a good card. Over all though, I'd wait a couple days and see what happens. I think launch is the 24th, so 4 days can't kill ya.

Yep, good advice. Either way I'll no doubt be happy. Thanks.

tornadog is on a distinguished road

not terribly impressive on their benchmarks and the comparison is with a 7800 GTX 256 MB. Wonder if the 7800 GTX 512 mB is still the superior card. That would be a huge embarrassment for the folks at ATI, to be 1 generation behind Nvidia. This battle is swinging Nvidia's way!!!

History repeating itself:

9800 > 5900, an nvidia disaster
x800 = 6800
x1800 < 7800, an ATI disaster
x1900 = 7800 ??
