Supreme Commander, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Delays

As part of the conference call discussing their third quarter fiscal year 2006 results, THQ announced that the Gas Powered Games strategy game Supreme Commander and GSC Game World's action game S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl will not be released during 2006. Instead both titles are scheduled for THQ's fourth quarter of the 2007 fiscal year, which means the games should see the light of day sometime between January and March 2007.

wow, and I thought they couldn't possibly screw up that game anymore... i was wrong. I bet it never sees the light of day. By 2007, its is going to be so dated, it won't be worth releasing. Hell, Crysis will be out by Christmas (or so they say), and games like that make STALKER look like and NES game.

THQ should fire everyone that contributed to the delay then sell Stalker to EA games, at least they lay off designers for being productive.

I knew the game was in trouble after they decided to delay it the first time to introduce dx9 shaders.

They spent a lot of time saying pie in the sky type stuff. So I hope some of it actually made it into the game. It may not be the most graphically up to date but if it has these things it will be fun.

The thing also that is made from a unknown small company like GSC Game World (THQ is the publisher) does not keep me very happy

I think they participated in the development of Cossacks 2 which was a promising crap full of bugs at the end

I don't think anyone is responsible for the delays really. Its just when they finally finish what they are working they have to update the game for the next generation because it took them too long, its a never ending cycle. If game designers make a game for 5 years they have to kno what the technology would be 5 years from then and make their game take andvantage of it. Looks to be what didn't happen with this game.

Have any of you actually played what was already finished in stalker......IE the leaked stuff. No way that game will not come out. It felt more complete than CSS when that came out. All of you that say that it will suck, I know you have oppinions but they are a little overrated. The game has the potential of Deus ex and HL2. The weapons are great, the costumes are great and the placement of evry object that is there looks far too in place to be anything other than thought out. If anyone has ever dreamed of playing a FPS in your local village by the lake and plains, this is truly the game to get you going. And this was back in 2004.

I don't doubt the game will have great game play. The developer even said recently it's going in to beta. I just don't see why it can't be finished by the end of this year.

The reason that it dident get released is a still unknown one to all of us. But you have to remember that this game has had a new engine built for it. mapped a 30km square area of gameplay. has supposedly an evolved AI system and a non scripted functional world. And it playes well. the last few games that were like that were great. farcry,( which took a long time aswell as a few game overhalls(new engine,ai) and deus ex...although these games were scripted, they never made you feel that what you were doing in the game was the only way to achive a task.
I would be willing to wait long enough for such a game.
Not being funny but i am beginning to hate modern shooters that just dont deliver.........especially Doom 3's repetativeness and HL2's very short story. Although HL2 was good, it left me thinking i just watched an episode of Lost and i had to wait for the next one........not a complete game in my books, I am willing to bet it was because of the amount of scripting. I Am still waiting for a repeat of deus ex and to a lesser extent far cry.
