[H]ardOCP overclocks 3.06 P4 to 4.2Ghz

The things you will do for a few extra MHz……

Amazing isn’t it? Honestly ask yourself, when was the last time you bought the latest and greatest CPU / mainboard / video card and did NOT attempt to overclock it, mod it, or take it apart? If you said “NEVER!”, then you are obviously at the wrong site, no doubt you accidentally typed in HardOCP.com in your browser but you meant to go to go here. The truth is, there isn’t many things that some of us wouldn’t try in order to get a few extra MHz.

Having said that, we are lucky enough to happen to have most of the latest technology here at our disposal almost daily. Obviously we are interested in seeing the limits of each piece of hardware we get, but rarely do we set off on “all out” performance projects. Most of our time and efforts are dedicated to the project at hand whether it be a CPU review, or maybe just a video card write up. Now, purely in the interest of *cough* professional journalism *cough* we do overclock these review products to their highest possible stable condition in an effort to demonstrate to you, the reader, what you can expect if you were to plop down your hard earned money on next-gen chips when they become available.

Personally, at HardOCP, we like to see end users and enthusiasts setting out to break “Speed Records” or attempt some sort of “World Record Overclock”, as the idea rarely occurs to us here. Simply because how fair is that to have all this cutting edge hardware and then set out to make some sort of record when we have the unfair advantage of having all the latest technology within arms reach. These types of “record setting” events are intended for the community as a way to showcase YOUR achievements, not large hardware sites and corporations. But sometimes we like to have some fun too and show it off to you guys and you always tend to enjoy seeing someone else destroy perfectly good hardware while on a speed quest.

With that in mind, what would happen if we decided to grab a 3.06GHz HT processor , pair it up with the latest and greatest Granite Bay mainboard from ASUS, the P4G8X, stocked with two 256mb sticks of Corsair XMS3500 Cas2, slap in the fastest video card on the planet, the ATi Radeon 9700 Pro, power it up with the Vantec 520w PSU and then bolt the whole set up to a couple of VapoChill PE units?

The 3.06GIG P4s are simply awesome processors, and for those of you with alot of money id strongly recommend one. Its just unfortunate ATM they cost so damn much.
