Anyone know the chronology of the Rage chipset. I have a few cards with various Rage, Rage 3D, Rage Pro, Rage II, etc chips (cant remember exact details, and I am at work. will edit later tonight). I want to junk the early ones, and use the later ones for servers. Ok, so now they are all "crap", but I'd like to avoid fitting an older card and throwing a newer one.

Looks like some clue for the AGP versions - is it AGP or PCI or a mix that you have? It would appear that the Rage IIc was a PCI chip used in an AGP card (or something like that) Also check the major and minor chips for date codes - usually 4 digit, coded yyww (Year and week) - though this might give the wring impression between early examples of better cards, and late models of older ones - if the main chip has a copyright/trademark year, that might also change with subsequent production runs.

Ok,
1) Rage 2) Rage LT (mobile) 3) Rage IIc (low end for onboard) 4)Rage Pro (no real difference from original Rage though) 5)Rage 128 6)Rage 128 Pro (clock enhanced Rage 128) ATI then released the Radeon series from there, and preceding the Rage was the Mach 64 I believe. I wouldn't be surprised if you could trace the lineage somehow at ATI's site. I know if you try a driver download, the chip type is sorted in descending order back down to the oldest at the bottom from the newest at the top. Good Luck!
