TV Cards?
Hello!
I'm currently working as a salesman in a computer shop in Israel and I lack the knowledge about TV cards. I wish that you guys might help me. I would like to know everything there is to know about matching a TV card to the buyer: 1. What is the difference between DVR and PVR? 2. What connection type should I choose- FM S-video, or what? 3. Anything else you think I should know... Thank you very much for any help....  Guy.

Do you need Analog card, DVB-T or DVB-S card?? There are a lot of different cards and USB boxes in the market. What features you need?

Well basicly, I need to sell those things. I know there are alot of different types out there and I would like to know the basics:
What is DVB-T/DVB-S?? What does it mean?? what is PVR DVR Etc. The main Idea is that I want to know better for I'll be able to answer people's questions.

DVB-T means it can show digital signal if there is digital broadcasting in your area. Be careful, unless it saysit is also analogue, it will only show digital. Same for analogue tv tuners.
When one tuner says it has PVR (or DVR, I confuse the two) it means, usually that you can use it to record the channel you are watching. Of course to what quality, size, length, format, it all depends on the card and you need to be careful if that is what you are looking for. Mind you, for recording TV you will need a LOT of hard drive space. Also, unless you have a very good and expensive tuner that does the hardware decoding and encoding, you will need a fast CPU on the PC. What connection to choose depends on what you are going to use the card for. If you want FM radio, then take one that has it, etc. The best cards are usually internal. There are also external USB2 based ones, and I guess other connections too. USB2 is fine in terms of speed, though I don't know about HD streaming, but my guess is it should be ok for that too. Also, speaking of HD, I don't know what the situation is like in Israel, so, if there are already or going to be soon, TV stations that broadcast in HD, you will need a tuner that supports it. Be careful about what you buy. If you are going to do the importing of the tuners yourself, some tuners do not work in all countries. Some will not work at all, some will work without the sound, etc. Make sure that whatever you buy supports the system in Israel.
