Anyone collect old cards?

Just wondering, I've still got my first card I bought, the all mighty Voodoo 2 12 meg so I was just wondering if anyone's got their old cards still or have all gone to the recycle bin.

Other cards that I still have laying around for one reason or an other:
V3 2000
V3 3000
V5 5500
Kyro series both I/II (cards were great imo).
First Radeon that ATI put out along with a whole series of cards from the 8500 pro, 9600 Pro, X800 GTO, X850 Pro, X1950 Pro and now the x3870's.

Just more or less bored at work and wanted to see if anyone else has some old stuff laying around.

Re: Anyone collect old cards?

Good luck on the 4800 card. I've been looking forever for one. The only person that I know that has one is mikepedo. This is what I got from a member of an old PVR forum site when I was really looking into it a couple of years ago. He wanted more then 500$ at the time and I can't spend that much on a card, especially if I'm not using it day to day.

"Mike is a member of 3dfxzone as well so its not difficult to dig up some contact information.I would suggest you make him a good offer, beware though that he also has a V5 6000, so he is probably a collector of rare videocards."

I have two 4500 cards that still work the last time I booted them up. I might be able to part with one if your serious about it, I do have to double check them though. I have the original CD's but not the boxes that they came in.

Here's a link to a site that will give instructions on how to turn the Kyro II into a 1.5 volt 4x AGP card instead of the default 1/2x agp slot 3.3 volt card. It works, I've already done it to the card that I will not part with.

which site.. Pvr-net or pvrgenerations?

I know for only 3 people that had them, and at the time, they were also asking a fair chunk for them....

How much do you want? i'm sure i could figure out some sort of an arrangement..... are they both the hercules brand with the terrible fan on them.. or different manufacturers?

Re: Anyone collect old cards?

My old wreck collection consists of:
1. VL-Bus Diamond stealth 968
2. PCI Bus - S3 several old cards
3. PCI Bus - Matrox Millenium 2
4. PCI - S3 Savage 4 (my first decent 3D card)
5. AGP, Rage 128
6. AGP, Creative Geforce 2MX
7. AGP, Geforce 4MX

One day, I'll get round to reviving some of my old wrecks for a spot of legacy gaming.

Re: Anyone collect old cards?

Hey Judas, yeah both cards are the Hercules 4500. One I have modded for the 4x AGP 1.5 volt setting. The other one is the standard 1/2x stock setting that I believe still works. I'll have to put in my 3dfx box to find out and see though ( it's the only machine I have with a mother board that old to test it on).

I don't remember what PVR forums it was, I think it was PVR-net but I know he was on the 3dfx forums quit a bit and the only person I knew that had one. Not sure if he still owns it or not though, it's been a long time since I've really looked into it.

As for price, just a fair offer is cool + shipping. I'm not looking at putting down a house payment with it so.... Make an offer you think is fair and send me a PM. Sure we can work out something. I won't be asking for an arm and a leg that's for sure. :P

I'm going to be busy for about two weeks, I've got my daughter this weekend and then I leave for Puerto Rico on the 14th to the 23rd for my work so I don't know when I'll actually get to test it out for you until I get back and have some time but stay in touch and eventually I'll get it tested.

Lepel: Good question, some it's boasting rights to the groups they still talk to. Some of the 3dfx forums are still very active and they've been out of business for 8/9 years now and there is still driver updates from third parties since they released the source code. Paying 1200$ for a V5 6000 is still insane if you ask me but to some... each their own I guess.

Jand

Re: Anyone collect old cards?

I threw away some old cards. Others I gave away in the past (like the PVR card), and the people who got them threw them away. I do have a Rage Pro (or Rage XL) card somewhere, I think, and a GeForce 3, and possibly a PCI card, too, but I threw away a lot of old stuff (like the Voodoo 2) before I moved to live with my wife.

I would also be interested in old Envy24 (ICE1712) cards (example Hoontech/ST Audio...)

Again, not sure how much this stuff is worth (and I'm pretty sure it ain't worth much for real-life usage, since I got E-mu 1212m for under $100, and it beat any of these cards anytime), but I would be interested in it since I collect interesting soundcards.

I guess I'm one of the Top20. There are others who have more and more exclusive ones...

For me collecting has reached a point I have to stop...10 cards more and my space is really out...

Especially Exxe tdfx.de is an address to look at!!! There you find more and very special cards!!!
His collection is one...or even the biggest collection on earth!!!

EDIT: Link fixed...

Hey Chosen, yeah it's the same me. Been watching the site but haven't posted lately over there. Just haven't been using my 3dfx box for anything lately and have had other things going on with my ex, my daughter and work. Hope things are going well for you.

Anyone else checking out this thread, you should really check out what some of the guys over there have cuz it's rather insane on what some of the guys have.

Judas, I just got back in town so I'll give you an update if the card works or not this week and we can work something out. I've got two cards here so was thinking maybe 20/30$ plus what ever shipping if that's cool.

well don't rush on any of it.... just a fyi...

i'm not planning on jumping on anything right considering the world wide situation. I'm kinda pooling my resources for the "just in case" senario.. which means that 20-30 bucks + shipping could provide me with enough food to last a few weeks if properly managed.

LOL totally understandable. Cards aren't going anywhere any time soon I'm guessing so let me know. I still need to make sure they both work as I really don't want to sell anything that's not working right so it's all good.

Big Grin Re: Anyone collect old cards?

the ones that mean something to me.

3dfx:
voodoo 5 5500 64MB SLi This is my fav. This is in my other PC, it gets treated to 'upgrades' 'Around' the graphics card. such as mobo, cpu, memory. etc. Always looking for ways of pushing more power out of it.

I also have a diamond monster voodoo2 8MB. not doing anything.

I also have a pair of creative voodoo2 8MB cards running in SLi . ( i love these cards, always wanted an SLi set up)

I also have a Diamond monster Voodoo1 4MB. This was the first proper 3D card my bro bought. and the only PC 'upgrade' that has ever made me go WOW.!!!

Sure,.. things have 'moved on' leaps and bounds, but nothing 'new' i've seen has ever made my jaw drop quite as much as the first time seeing a 3DFX Voodoo1 totally transform Need For Speed II se. (or any other game at that time, for that matter.)

Yea, new stuff impresses me, but the frame rates and massive change in image quality that a Voodoo1 did to games compared to what they looked like before, is an impact that will never be replicated. Not even with DX10.

ATi:

I also keep hold of a twin chip ATi RAGE FURY MAXX 64MB complete in its box, mint.

Others;

a Ge-force 4 Ti 4400

& a Ge-force 2 MX

I also have a 4 MB S3 card hanging about somewhere, and a 2 mb cirrus logic card as well. Not because i loves them, but more because I rarely ever bother to sell anything on..!! lol
