When the hell did u turn miserable anyway ?

Seems to me like you need some IRC style abuse, or a right good argument with me (which u'll lose as usual ) or maybe you need to dig out that UT CD and drop in for a kickabout.

You mean when the 2nd Parhelia failed after 2 months and the 9700 pro also died after 3 months - all cards having the same problem?

Miserable? where did you get that idea

I won't be available for IRC abuse unless it's during the afernoon sat or sun as I prefer spending time with the GF instead of playing on the 'net these days. Besides, I'm still awaiting the 9800 pro 256 meg card in the UK before I can play UT again - my laptop plays UT ~3fps

Unfortunately, they had a chance of a "comback" with the Parhelia, but it didn't come off at all.
I gotta say that even thought they had a "chance" ATI had already shown the 9700 at E3 last year, unless I am wrong so more than likely Matrox must have gone into panic knowing what ATI was eventually bringing to the table.

But we cannot change history and Impeach the president of Matrox before making the Parhelia, all we have to do is wait and see what is gonna happen although it will be a depressing wait.

Today ATI is king and Nvidia is cheating and lying, Matrox is going backwards and Creative Labs is trying to sneak into the backdoor of the midrange gamer market with a Dx8.1 card, the Sis/Trident/S3/Intel efforts do not count, Bitboys are MIA vaporware and 3dFX is still dead.

Don't forget about PowerVR - they're working on a new card

Well to quote Home Simpson: one big and loud DO'H

I knew about the new PowerVR and even read up on it one of the tech websites but it slipped my mind to mention them.

But at least no matter what PowerVR counts too, I just hope that they can avoid a Matrox curse and at least come up with a fully Hardware T&L, Dx9/OpenGL 1.3 or 2.0 card, at least something in the mid end that can be very decent and respectfull for the price.

Kyro chips (PVR series 3) proved that you don't need on-chip T&L when it can be software emulated given a decent CPU.
Seeing as fixed T&L has been superseeded by PS/VS implementations and it's been stated that the new card will have this - hardware T&L is going to be a non-issue

Ahh Memories

I had G400 32mb in a machine at one time and it was a killer card, dual head was alot of fun but when I linked 3 monitors up (pci graphics card) it was a ton of fun. Like most of you Matrox loyalists when we found out about the new card we were hopin for it to be the next G400 and to carry us into the next realm. Unfortually it was a large flop, the gaming people didn't give it good reviews because of it's slow clock speed. It's price detured the market away from it. and over all it was a cool card with some cool features but it lacked it where it needed it the most. Hopefully someday soon i'll have some dollars saved up and i'll buy the G400 pci and run 3 head again (3 head is alot better than 2, for any dual head person, ok messages and what not get really annoying half on one screen and half on the other).

anyways my $0.02

R.I.P. Matrox - you were always my favorite

As far as I can tell, series5 wil be a very nice upper/mid range card
here are some "roumours", but we will just have to wait and see
please don't ask me more because I'm not allowed to give any info 'bout it...

Ive read statements by Matrox that they are "happy" with their 2-3% of the graphics market (or whatever % it is... probably below 5%) and arent excatly aiming to join the battle with ATI and Nvidia... I think they are creating future cards more for the office kinda market rather than home gaming...

well technically the majority of businesses run 2d based desktop work so Matrox is all set for now.

Still the Parhelia is powerfull enough to run Jedi Knight II in triple monitor mode and I even heard that it can do Halo in triple monitor mode too.
