Hope this is not off topic...

How did you get into Overclocking/Modding?

My first overclock was when my Uncle tried to push my P120 to a P133. It didn't work, but that was my first. It took another 3-4 years, when I got my PIII 866 and started to O/C it. I don't recall how exactly I got interested in it, I guess I was browsing the net looking for tweaks and such and I stumbled upon an O/Cing page. I pushed my 866 gradually higher and higher, I landed on 950 and left it that way. Then I bought my latest PC which has a P4 1.7Ghz running at 1.99 Ghz. O/Cing video cards came naturally when I was looking around and stumbled on Omega drivers and this forum. Memories~...

Share your story~!?

P.S - It's Overclocking related so I thought I'd post it here.

I started getting interested when I was looking around for what parts to get for this current computer that I'm on - I had an un-overclockable Dell before that, and I was a Mac person (oh the horror!) before that (its like brainwashing, but worse!)... anyway, this was the first overclockable machine I had, and I overclocked it for all it was worth... which was very little, given my worthless ram and terrible AXP stepping...

I wanted to do it back in the day when we got our first Pentium 133. But it was a retail bought computer so I couldn't overclock it (that was when I was 14 years old.) That was also back when a new computer system costed 4500$.... With a printer (that printed 600 x 600dpi) and a whopping 15" monitor.

That was the first pentium processor. I remember.....I think that Pentiums first came out in May of '96 or '95.

Yeah, computers were so expensive back then.

I think it was a little earlier than that...I'm pretty sure I had it in Feb of 95 and it wasn't the newest CPU out.

First overclocking adventure was overclocking a 486 DX4/100 to 133Mhz, and then taking a frozen 486DX4/133 to just a hair over 168Mhz... that last overclock didnt last very long... but it was an adventure!

My first real experiment with OCing was taking the celery 300a to 450. I had played around before this time, but never had the nerve to keep it OC past a day for fear of burning out the processor . Hard to believe that old celery is still rolling along at 450 without a hiccup after all these years.

First actual overclocking was done on a 200MMx pentium, clocked that biatch up to 75mhz FSB (from 66) and got a crazy fast 233 out of it. Then, I overclocked my Pure3d Voodoo 1 from 50mhz ram clock to 60mhz...whew! That thing FLEW in Jedi knight one!

The first time I overclocked was to show up a friend who kept bragging about his new pIII 933. I built a water cooling system using a freezer and a fish tank water pump (seriously). I was able to bring my pIII 700 to 980.

My first overclock was a Cyrex 6x86L. I overclocked it from 150Mhz to 200Mhz. But to be honest at the time I didnt even realise what I was doing. It was a accidental overclock as I had thought the PR200 chips meant 200Mhz and I didnt realise they were only 150Mhz with 75Mhz BUS. My first real overclock was my K6-2 350Mhz up to 380Mhz. I remember how proud of it I was then because it was the first time I had tried anuthing like it. Aside from the accidental overclock of the cyrex that I didnt discover that I even did it til a lot later.

My first time was taking an AMD 586 133 to a speedy 150.
My friend told me I was going to blow it up. It kept on running till
I got my next upgrade.

Don't you mean "Celly sure is a nice cpu"?

My i4004 doesn't o/c. Well it might, but I'd have to get it out of the attic and do some soldering.
My TRS-80 (Z80 based) is also in the attic. I have a 300baud modem for it and the lower case expansion pack
I don't have my 8088 nor my 8086 any longer, and I never o/ced them
My grandfather has my 486-33, but it's never been o/ced
My uncle has my P-200MMX, which runs happily @233 without a fan
My PIII-500 ran forever @600 on an Asus P3B-F, 'til I put in a Tualeron 1.2 @1.44 and gave it to my mom
My Tbird-900 would hardly do 1000 on an Asus A7V
My dual PIII-800Es have run at 900 each forever and havn't crashed since september - september 2001 that is
My Tualeron 1.2 @ 1.74 is suiting up to be immersed in chilled di-electric oil sometime this spring

Thumbs Up! I think my first one was a P200MMX to a whopping 227Mhz!

Had 64MB of EDO and a Voodoo....Man I was the schiznit...heh.
Next came the 333A Celery @ 550 at default voltage on a Soyo SY6VBA 133 and a Voodoo 3 3000 and again I was the man. Then came the "Slot A" Athlon 750@1000 with the aid of a GFD and an ABit KA7-100. Then My trusty Epox 8K7A+ and the XP1600+@1750 (completely skipped the socket A Tbird processors) too my current rig. The first system I ever had was a Commodore 64 with external 5 1/4 inch floppy and an okidata dot matrix printer on my 19" color TV. I think I was 16 when I got that thing in 1984?? Could have been 85, but man I remember some of those games like I had just played them yesterday.
