I would of posted this in the ATI graphics section but hopefully Asmoday will reply /w his results on his 7800GTX.
Finally a quiet solution for the x1900xtx. Yes, I know about the Accelero X2. However, with my DFI MB it cooks the chipset. Stock temps 49c Idle 90c Load. VF900-Cu 39c Idle 79c Load Which I think is pretty good considering how quiet it is. I have it turned all the way up, and it's just a very slight hum. Probably about 20-22db. Hopefully temps will down a bit when the AS5 sets up. |

wow you weren't kidding how hot those x1900's run. Do you know if it uses the same fan as the VF700s did?

Honestly I don't have a clue. Asmoday had one of those at one time, so he'd know for sure.

I didn't bother to do any extended checking for the highest load temps with the stock Asus cooler, but it was in the 70's if I recall it correctly. Now with the AS5'd VF900 it maxes out after about an hour running rthdribl @ 52-53°C. And it wasn't too expensive locally here in Sweden, I picked it up for 295 Swedish (38.80$ USD).

I'll definitely pick a VF900 for my upcoming 7900 (if replacing the original). It's well thought out and the Zalman manufacturing quality makes for a safer mounting than for instance the Arctic Cooling's, though I haven't seen the new Accelero first hand.

According to Zalman the noise levels are:
1250rpm 18.5dB +/- 10% 2400rpm 25dB +/- 10%

Guess the VF700's have a faster fan? I think its 2600 RPM. Probably a different design too.
Either case 20 at full load is still hard to believe for something that has to keep an X1900XTX cool. |

Actually my bet would be that it's between 25-30dB at full blast, especially mine anyway since it runs at approx. 2600rpm at 12v.

Like I said "Probably" it was my best guess.
Speaking of keeping a x1900xtx cool, at the lowest setting temps jumped 2c on idle & load. Mike which Fan header do you have yours plugged in to? I have mine on 4, and need to figure out how to make MBM read it. Now I can hear my CPU fan speed up, and slow down under load. I'll be taking care of the problem soon /w a Noctua NH-U12. |
