It's just a f***ing(*NUCLEAR EDITED*) thermal pad so just go slowely and wait and go VERY SLOW someone post a high res pic when you do it... Oh well, now i can go amd ![]() __________________ R.I.P. x700pro <NUKE>its almost like looking back into the past and trying to warn someone of the dangers of removing the heatspreader and being able to do nothing to help them! for i did just as he did april 4th 2006. now i don't feel quite as dumb as other ppl have done exactly as i have.

My friend tried to play chicken with his P4 1.7 Wiliamette, putting CPU burn on ripping off the HSF then sticking his fingers on it to see who'd last. |

Just posted on another forum for some guy who wanted to remove a heatspreader I had a similar problem when I had to replace the hs/fan assembly on my old 486 quite a few years back. The fan was integrated in the heatsink and that was held onto the CPU with a thermal pad. Could I shift that thing? Eventually I put the PC back together again and powered up. 10 minutes later the fan was squealin like a stuck pig, so I shut down and tried again, this time successfully removing the fan assembly. I guess the heat had softened the pad and just a gentle twisting action seperated the two So if you want to remove the heatspreader it`s best to try it just after you`ve used the PC for 1/2 hour or so. Failing that, heat the CPU with a hairdryer first.

the IHS is soldered to the core itself so it'd take a bit more heat than a blowdryer.

dell....yeah ok that's different. it's not really a computer then. my bro has one and i joke on him about having an overclocked calulator
have u heard anywhere about how to unlock the multiplier for 640's? i wanna try a lower multi because this one doesn't OC as well as my 630 did. i can get to 4545(ballpark) but not stable enough to open programs. and that is max voltage(1.725V) amongst other tweaks. ive looked but couldn't find anything
