how much of a difference does 4 pipes make? (x800 pro vs xt)

If I am able to overclock my x800 pro up to xt speeds and stay stable, how much more performance will i have at that point with 4 additional pipes (16 instead of 12).

I have a non-vivo pro, so I would have to do the hard mod, and physically reconnect the pipes on the board.

Now if I am only going to see perhaps 3-5fps improvement across the bard with the additional pipes, well then I think I may just stick with the oc and call it a day. But if I could gain maybe 10-15 fps, well then yeah I would be a little more inclined to try the mod...

i dont want to discourage you about trying this,but when i had my non vivo pro i was going to do this and i did alot of research and found that unless you have one of the very first pros made then this will not work.

yep you're right about needing a certain non-vivo pro... the ones that work seem to be the gpus that have serial numbers ending in '1'

i dont have a ati card now but.. i do have a bit of experience...

Using my 6200 (4 pipes normaly) I was able to unlock 4 extra pipes on the card.

Wehn using the 4 (8 total) extra pipes with the card at stock speeds I only see a 3-4 fps increase over just 4 pipes. BUT!

When compairing FPS slow down... the extra pipes helped. My overall average went up beacause my min fps went up.

So it doesnt really make your card "faster", more over makes your card more "capable". Good clock speed Im affraid still rules the "Speed" of the card.

I saw a MUCH! higher fps boost When overclocking my 6200 from stock 300/550 to 450/675! (clock rates are where its at)

personaly I think you have enough pipes to do the job... I only run 4 pipes on this card because I get some artifacts with the over 4 on.... and with the card at the OC'ed speeds I can play al my games at 1280-1024.

I had my 9550 up to 9600pro speeds... and Im sorry to say that card sucked! I hated every aspect of that card! HATED IT!

I ran back to nVidia begging for forgiveness.

This little 6200 has got some balls let me tell ya. pretty much sitting at clock for clock speeds with the 9600 line, this 6200 kills them. Im sitting right at stock 6600 speeds as it is, and still climbing... now you get in to high rez (over 1280-1024) and it runs out of juice... but who really play over that anyway?!

now I am by no means saying a 6200 is on par with bellator's x800... and Im by no means saying a 6200 is all you need to game on.... HAHA.... yeah right.

Im just trying to keep myself busy with seeing how long I can keep my O'l AGP system in the game until I have to money to make the PCI-E plunge.

The 9550 card, even at the same speeds of a 9600XT, could never compare to a 9600XT in performance. Infact the older 9500 model cards would leave a 9550 in the dust! (Hell, some of the 9500's could even be flashed into 9700's interestingly enough and then OCed!) I've forgotten now as to the reasons why though, but there were several. Pipes/shaders, cores, and 64 vs 128bit memory interfaces in some combo or another. ATI made it all but impossible to figure out which cards in the 9xxx series were better than which, could never go by model/class numbers!
