Need 120mm Fan for Noctua NH-U12
Does anyone have any good recommendations?
I want some thing quiet, around 28db but still has good CFM specs. Any suggestions? |

The Papst 4412 F/2GL has specs of 26db & 55.3CFM. Also has temp controlled to reduce noise further.
Haven't tried it yet - waiting for delivery! By the way - just registered on this site and begun a new thread cos I never overclocked. Can you help me. My thread is in this section. Need help to ensure adequate cooling etc... tks. |

I use Yate Loon D12SL-12's. 22.8 dB(A),36.87 CFM. I do believe they are the quietest 120mms on the market. Nexus also has fans under the same name with the same specs (made by Yate Loon). They aren't that bad priced if you look around. Under $10 a fan i should think.

I love the SilenX fans. They have a couple 120mm fans you could try: one runs at 1600rpm, 14dba, and pushes 58cfm of air, and the other runs at 1400rpm, 11dba, and pushes 40cfm of air. They also come with rubber gromets for mounting the fans to the case which reduces fan vibration. Even though they aren't cheap (usually running about $20-25 US), they are hands down the best fans I have ever purchased. They're quiet, push a ton of air, and I've yet to have one fail on me.
Another couple of ones would be from Arctic Cooling. The first one being the Arctic Fan 12 (which is the same fans they use on their heat pipe Freezer coolers) and the other the AF12025. The first runs at 1500rpm, 24dba, and pushes 57cfm of air, and the second runs at 1500rpm, 25dba, and pushes about 55cfm of air. Both also sell for about 1/3 the SilenX fans. The good thing about both makers fans is that they use bearing fans instead of brushless, so they last a whole lot longer.

Thanks for all the replies.
Wow those SilenX fans sure look nice. The heatsink already has built in anti-vibration strips. A perfect match! |

Might want to look at this http://www.silentpcreview.com/article63-page2.html for a list of quiet fans.
SilenX fans are good, but their specs are way out to lunch. |

SilenX BS's their airflow by a huge amount.
A good idea would be get a Panaflow High fan which is ~103 CFM then just use a simple inline rheostat and put it on 5V mode. There you go, <30dB and 65+ CFM |

The last Panaflow I owned was still noisy even at low speeds. I'm trying to keep this setup as simple as possible.

Well you said you wanted good airflow, SilenX doesn't provide it.

That is why I went with the fan above. It's spec seem a bit more real, plus they just do an in-line resistor to slow down the fan.

BTW, I like your choice of that Scythe fan, Necrosis. They are nice fans. I would have mentioned that fan, but the Arctic Cooling fans use the same materials, and the AF series of fans are almost identically made, just that they cost 2x less which is why I mentioned them instead. I'm really picky when it comes to case fans and the amount of noise they produce, so I'm continually testing fans all the time. So far the SilenX iXtrema series are the best fans I've seen this year, but again, they are expensive which is why I mostly sell the AC ones. |

So then what's your opinion on Panaflow's or Sunon or Delta fans? Thermaltake I find BS's their noise ratings (or just measures it from more than 1M and doesn't say), but they give their airflow. SIlenX BS's the airflow, but they do make good on the silence thing. Vantec Stealth ones, IMO, are damn quiet because I don't mind the ballbearing growl, but they do make good on both counts. Now the Tornado...THERE's a fan for ya

As for Delta.. what can I say about them. They know their stuff. If you want to push sheer volumes of air, such as 180-200+ cfm of air, then you cannot do any better than a Delta. Just make sure you have a set of ear plugs handy... unless you like being deaf that is. I managed to get ahold of one of their GFB1212 turbine fans (120mm x 76mm). Damn thing pushes more than 200 cfm of air, but it's really loud. Not as loud as their TFB1212 (which pushes over 220cfm, 4500 RPM @ a whopping 65db), but it has to be about 50db or so. Anything above 30db is too loud for my taste, but man, if I had a need to push air, it'd be Delta all the way. |

YEah well go play heavy metal drums for a year or so and see how much the tolerance for noise (or rather your ignorance towards noise) decreases
![]() I can take the noise. 65dB is kids stuff. |

Got the heatsink & fan installed.
1. Never use the yellow slots on the DFI Ultra-Ds 2. I'm running the fan at full speed, and can't really hear it. Also I tried connecting the fan on the CPU header, and put my Zalman on header 2. The Zalman would not run, and the fan only ran at 800RPM. So that is another no, no. 3. Room temp 23.3c Idle is 28c /w a load temp of 38c. |
