Quandry...opinions please

Ok...this is the score, I am running a P4 2.4B on an IT7 Max board (original version - not PE version) and Corsair XMS PC2700...

The memory is a lovely overclocker and runs quite happily at 354Mhz (C2) which is 133Mhz and 3:4 divider, this was a happy accident on my part because the IT7 only support DDR266 not DDR333. My original plan was to oc the P4 and use the overhead between DDR266 and DDR333 to allow the memory to run comfortably but my 2.4b does not like oc'ing, I can't get it to run (stably) at anything over 2.61. Its a B0 stepping model and just will not go any higher, I've tried full voltage range on both core and ram and it just will not boot over an FSB of about 145.

So I'm left with a choice;

1) Run the chip at 2.4 as Intel intended and run the memory at 354Mhz which gives me a 3D Mark score of 13891 (R9700pro at default) or

2) Run the chip at 2.61 which means I'm losing memory bandwidth because the memory is only running at about 290Mhz and drops my 3D Mark score to 13400 or thereabaouts.

I know 3D Mark isn't a comprehensive benchmark for all PC functions so I wondered which option would give me the best performance gain all round and not just in graphics...

Thx in advance,

I think you should keep it at 2.4, the entire idea of overclocking is that you can make it fast but probably shorten its life signifigantly. Because you are losing so much memory bandwidth and shortening its life at 2.6 and still actually loosing performance there is no point.
