3dm2k1 or 3dm2k3 - which to use for stability test?

Hey guys..

(edit:: i hope this is the right forum..)

Seeing how far I could get my 3dm2k3 score up, i bumped my
clocks (on my 8500le 128mb) from 300/300 to 305/305.. and to
my surprise, it worked..

but when i tried to run 3dm2k1 at the same clocks, it would lock
hard during the game2-hq test..

Which one should be used for stability testing?
3dm2k3 seems to stress gpu's more, but it works at 305/305
where as 3dm2k1 doesn't..

Also, which program/game/whatever do you guys suggest for
testing vidcard stability, if not any of the 3dmarks?

neither. the ultimate test is to just play the game....i'm able to get 3dmark to complete with insane settings but as soon as i try to play with them i'll crash.

Some settings are more stable than other in different type of tests and etc. Like in 3dmark2k1 it's more a of a game benchmark along with synthetic stuff whereas 3dmark03 is more synthetic and just pushing ur vid card, etc

Yeah, i should have figured that out..
The only game that I can figure out right now is UT2k3..

in my waking state, i can't think of any other game
that i have that would be good..

3Dmark03 will kill a system. That is the most rigerous test of all. Now 3dmark01 is good, but most people get high FPS, so that makes 3dmark03 the better to bench with.

if 2k3 was a more rigourous test, why doesn't it lockup at 305/305?

whereas 2k1 only runs at 300/300..

on my system, of course.

See, for me I have to clock my vid card slower for 2003...... 2001 I can run my vid card faster without it freezing.

Use it and run the entire full set of tests (Minus IQ Tests) up to 5 times in a row. That's what I use for a stability test. A dinky 1 test in either one is pathetic way to test stability. Oh yes, disable test screens so that the test is more continuous.

lol, i'm not just running one test.
i always run it on 5xloop to test stability.

but when i run 305/305 on 3dmark 2001, it locks up at dragothic.
when i run 305/305 on 3dmark 2003, it'll finish without problems.

Its all dependant on what games you play. If you can play a game thats stressful on the video card for more than 30 minutes without a crash, leave it at those settings.

The benchmarks can only give you an idea of what to expect in actual gaming as they are all purely synthetic.
