overclocking cpu

can someone explain to me how it is supposed to be done?
i got AI-booster but i dont understand much of it...
i know i have to increase voltage for a stable overclocking, but how do i know i cant go higher, or whats about good.
has anybody got the same cpu as me and overclocked it?

i wanna learn more about the overclocking stuff... i've already tried with the graphic card. but i dont know how i can see how hot its getting.. so i put it back at stock speeds. (but i have a problem, its dropping under its stock speeds. i see in ati tray tools its getting under the stock speeds. if i want it normal, i have to put it back on the stock speeds first... :S)

so who wants to help me?

heh i dont feel comfortable with people telling me what to do, i prefer to have a bunch of links dumped at me for me to read

it also matters what cpu & mobo you have, hard to get quick answers without that info

model numbers,revision numbers,bios revisions,firmware revisions,airflow or water cooling conditions,power supply stabillity,chip stepping and quality and a million other things determine how far you can push your system.heat is the key,you want your hardware as cool as possible.

i swear i didnt notice the sig haha

for me what counts is: how hot it is, how fast it can cool (delicious heatsinks), how much the psu can handle, & known OC results from the same model

& ya google... & there are some 'overclocking tutorials'

I wouldn't play with any voltage adjustments in the beginning. a64's oc quite well on stock voltage for the most part. Get familiar with memory timings, dividers, and the hypertransport/fsb settings, and use prime95 to test for stability.
