Dell, Compaq, OEM mobos... overcloking.

Ok, the thing goes, I work at a warehouse for old IT hardware... mostly mobos. So they throw out things, like i.e. Dell mobos a lot of them, I got 15 so far Mostly INTEL D845PT Socket478 <i845D>/Dell. Like on the picture:

Nobody buys them cause they Dell, but they have a CPU in them a P4 478 socket, Nothwood like a 1,7 Ghz. And I kind of started tho think what to do with the damn things... There is no way to overclok them... But after some test, I founded a way to flash BIOS to any other BIOS type. So far I successfuly flashed it for P08 Intel bios for this mobo, instead of DELL A06. Intel BIOS is still crap tho, when it comes to overcloking. So I stumbled across this:

http://www.hothardware.com/viewartic...eid=67&catid=3

ASUS P4B266 chipset Intel 845, and a BIOS with some overcloking. Basically a best mobo for P4 overcloking on 478 socket. Here is the Bios http://www.bios-drivers.com/drivers/62/62323.htm 1005 I belive... So if you can flash a Dell mobo with Intel BIOS, can you flash Intel BIOS with ASUS bios? They have the same socket, chipset, memory support and CPU. What do you think?

Ok, this is how you flash a Dell OEM mobo to intel BIOS, first of all everything higher then i865 chipset and i865g can be overcloked, there are: Intel® Desktop Control Center for D865PERL & D875PBZ.

http://developer.intel.com/design/mo.../software/dcc/

If you have a Dell D865GBF or higher mobo you can flash it with Bios Recovery file *.bio All you have to do is to copy file to a clean or dos diskett, and remove the BIOS configuration jumper. The BIOS will flush it self witout checking BIOS ID. the id string will change from somthing like PT84510A.15A/10A.XXXXX >> PT84510A.86AA.XXXXX 15A indicates a DELL mobo. If you dont have a PERL mobo you can still flash it with PERL bios, i865 chipset, and it will work tested...

Here is bios recovery info from Intel:
Recovery with Floppy Disk
Use this method if the recovery file (*.bio) is small enough to fit on a floppy disk. Note: The floppy disk does NOT need to be bootable; however, it must be formatted.

Copy the recovery file (*.bio) to floppy disk.

Place the disk in the floppy drive (drive A) of the target system.

Remove the BIOS Configuration Jumper. See the Technical Product Specification for details including the location of this jumper.

Power the system on.
Wait 2-5 minutes for the update to complete. When the floppy drive LED is lit, the system is copying the recovery code into the FLASH device.

System will either turn off when the recovery process is completed or it will prompt you to turn off the system.

Remove floppy disk from drive A:

Replace the BIOS configuration jumper.

Restart system

The second thing, everything lower then i865 i.e. i855 i848 i845, cannot be flash with anything but Intel BIOS because of the 82802AB/82802AC Firmware Hub, it have a 8x64kb hub (512kb) so you gonna need 8 files, I dont know how to separate other BIOSES into those files So just make a normal flash dos disk, and flash the same way as above, you gonna need 8x65kb file, + *.bio file. A Dell mobo can be flashed to a higher chipset like i845d >> i845e but not to high, I didn't tested all comobos. but I did a i845d >> i845PE It dosent give so much differents, may give you some options. But don't i845 >> i848 it won't work. Than you can youse some SoftFSB, CPU FSB, Clockgen... Dell BIOS would lock those softwares but not Intel So here you go, Overcloking a Dell mobo. I hope it helps...

Nuke209, try removing the CMOS pasword reset jumper, and make a normal BIOS via DOS flash disk. And write your PLL type and number, see if it supported by CPUFSB. Here is an image of how it looks like:

Hey,

I'm trying to Remove the DELL A06 Bios to my Dimension 4400... The MoBo is the D845PT.... I'm trying to update the bios to Intel's BIOS v.P08.... So, I've followed your steps to best of my ability, and nothing has happened since I removed the jumper and turned on the PC...

Here is what I did:

1) Downloaded Intel's IFlash PTAP08IB.EXE from here
2) I unzipped the package and copied all the file to a fresh Floppy Disk
3) Turned off computer and removed jumper
4) Inserted the disk
5) I've been waiting almost 20min now, and ths sytem has not been responsive... Yet the Floppy LED has remained lit this entire time.

Remember, I want to go from Dell's Bios A06 to Intel's P08

Also, I resorted to your method because Dell's string doesn't allow for easy Express or IFlash update.

Thank you, very much!

Any suggestions?
