Bios Questions
I've got the A8N-E mobo, with v1013 bios. Ive got some question about it... here are some pics, questions will be under them... (made with phone, so quality might not be everything)
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() So, now the questions. #1 talking about HTT, is that the Hyper Transport Frequency, as shown in the last picture? I tried something out the other day, increasing the FSB (which i thought was the CPU frequency) from 200 to 240. Once in windows i checked in CPUz what had excatly changed, and i saw the HT link had increased from 1000mhz to 1400mhz. this would be explained if the Hyper Transport Frequency is the HTT, as i understood HT link= HTT x FSB right? Next question. I found a overclocking guide which said: Quote:
Quote:
#2 to find the max of my CPU i should lower the Hyper Transport Frequency, lower my Memclock Index Frequency, and up my CPU frequency. Just up to the point i want or am comftereble with the temperature. did i understand that correcectly from the guide? #3 but to find the max of my memory, i dont get that part. I should leave the Hyper Transport Frequency at the point where i found max CPU, leave my CPU frequency at default (200Mhz) and up my Memclock Index Frequency, up to the point where its still stable? please enlight me in this! #4 Where do i need to set the voltage to the CPU? I checked the Vcore voltage, but the options there are: 1.39V OR Ignore. Should i set that at ignore and the set the voltage at CPU voltage? I can increase the voltage there with steps of 0.125V Guess this is about it. Please answer the questions with #... and then the answer, so i can clearly see what is about what and dont get confused. I really want to understand the working of the computer and get that processor to 2,5 or 2,6Ghz ![]() oh.. #5 is an overclock of 2.5 or 2.6Ghz achievable, considering cpu temps in the bios is 26/27C ?

try ont going over 1000mhz HTT.. so if you're going to 240fsb.. lower your hyper transport frequency to 4x or even 3x.. you wont notice much or even any performance change from 4x or 3x
if you want some guidence.... i've decided to take photos of my bios to hopefully help you guys out.. http://www.zaimc.com/temp/pc/bios0.jpg http://www.zaimc.com/temp/pc/bios1.jpg http://www.zaimc.com/temp/pc/bios2.jpg http://www.zaimc.com/temp/pc/bios3.jpg http://www.zaimc.com/temp/pc/bios4.jpg http://www.zaimc.com/temp/pc/bios5.jpg http://www.zaimc.com/temp/pc/bios6.jpg http://www.zaimc.com/temp/pc/bios7.jpg

loosen RAM timings and push the CPU as far as it'll go

you can have any oc 24/7... it all depends on the temperature you are running at. try keep the idle below 40 and the load below 55-60 (during overclock)

still have 1 question though, which isnt answered here or an guide i could find.
Where do i need to set the voltage to the CPU? I checked the Vcore voltage, but the options there are: 1.39V OR Ignore. Should i set that at ignore and the set the voltage at CPU voltage? I can increase the voltage there with steps of 0.125V, whith a max of 1.5V I set the CPU voltage at 1.375V, but CPUz still tells me its 1.39V :S

yes i can... but whatever i did it didnt show up in cpuz. i set the Vcore Voltage on ignore now, and changed the CPU Voltage, it shows up now.. but why cant i go higher then 1.5V, while in several guides it says "stick around 1.6-1.65V...
oh, and whats the best temperature tracker? should i use Asus Probe or speedfan?

does your A8N motherboard have an overvolt option? if so you could play with that..
they both work off the same sensors.... i perosnally use speedfan, because it gives me a temperature reading in my systray when i minimise

no... my mobo doesnt have that... i guess the max is 1.5V.
something strange though. Setting voltage in bios isnt correctly recognized in windows, or i am doing something wrong. after i jump on 1.45V or higher, it goes in Asus Probe and cpuz to ~1.510V. When i jump to 1.475V it goes in AP and cpuz to ~1.520V. looking in the bios, the option for Vcore Voltage has changed from [1.4V] & [Ingore] into [1.5V] & [Ignore]. i guess it the settings in the bios are a bit off or there is something above my hat. i've looked on the internet, and many people have trouble finding the correct voltages... what temperatures should i aim for... 50C as max @ load, or is that too hot?

50c aint too bad for an AMD under max load..... is this while it's overclocked?

yes... im finding the max for the cpu at the moment... i think i got it stable at 2.65Ghz @ 1.5V (thats what asus probe, everest and speedfan is telling me, bios says its 1.45V) 2.7 gave an error in prime even with 1.53V.
temps under full load is topping 52c.

arctic freezer 64 pro with AS5
i let prime run overnight, when i checked this morning, my screen was at stand-by. I couldnt get it back on desktop, so i figured it crashed. so i guess 2.65 was too much. I noticed above 2.6 i have to give it alot more voltage to get it a bit stable (it passed SuperPi and OCCT) so i guess i'll try 2.6 this time..

you know something about memory?
i got OCZ DDR500 XTC ram. on the site it says it should run DDR500, so 250Mhz at 1.75V. I had ut running on 200Mhz all the time with 2.6V no problem. Now i tried overclocking it as the guide tells me. so i put it on 'stock': ram ratio on 200, fsb on 250, voltage on 2.75V, so my ram would go DDR500/250Mhz this way. But i get heaps of errors in memtest.. am i doing something wrong? i even tried with 2.9V, but even that is giving me errors. EDIT: stock is solved. After i put it on 2T i could run it at stock. now i need to overclock it a little..

i think i've got it stable as it is right now. Tonight i will test it with prime..
but look at this: its getting recognized as a x2 5000+! idle at 30c, full load jet to come..

that's awesome man!
i'm sitting on a 10x muli but i'm gonna play with some settings when i get my 8800GTS and go to 9 multi like you have and increase my FSB a little. You should be able to his the 1T mark man.... 1T is where you want to be at in terms of memory, because 1T is where the performance at! I got bored other day and played with my timings, to see the difference between a CAS 2.5 and a CAS3.... here are results! no difference at all! 2.5-3-3-7 @ 3.15v
![]() now you should never try these voltages or even higher without some decent ramsinks on your ram.... if you wanna experiment, throw some temporary fans aiming at your ram and try at your own risk 3-3-2-5 @ 2.6v ![]() Now you see how i hit 6561MB/s ? under a 2T environment, i was just hitting 5,000MB/s... you can really notice the difference in 1T. so see what you can do ![]()

I agree. You should try to hit 1t if possible, even if you have to sacrifice a little memory clock speed. It made a big difference for me as well.

i tried stock speed and timings, 1T and had 3.0V on it, and still i didnt pass even 1 #5 test in memtest...
dont think i can pull of 1T, or i should put it back on 400Mhz, but i dont think there would be a performace increase between 1T@400mhz or 2T@473mhz.. btw, full load @ 49c. I guess I'm good now... just need to sort out the memory... i really wanna run 1T but dont think i can manage that.. strange there is a 20c gap between idle and full load...

try the 400mhz @ 1T and run some benchmarks to check the difference between 1T-400mhz and 2T-473mhz
SiSandra is a brialliant one to use!

i could probably run 220-230 with 1T. But its all cos of my mobo.. it isnt exactly the overclocker board...
prime ran 10h without error. so i guess thats ok, or should i do a 24h test as well?

I usually let prime run for 10 minutes at the most to see if its stable lol.. but thats me being impatient.
