Xeon 3060 torture.
![]() I was toying around today, I got my Xeon 3060 to post to 4.0ghz with ram running DDR2 1100 at 4-4-4-12. Chip took 1.65v to get to 4ghz, and 2.45v on the ram. I couldnt get it to do anything but load windows, run a coupl SuperPI 1M calculations, and then it would reboot when I went to open up CPU-Z. However I did get this off 3.8ghz (air cooled) 1.6v DDR2 1055 423x9 with a single X1900XTX @ 750/876 1.55v all Air cooled. I could only get this screenshot and save the .PCR file. It wouldnt load a browser to upload results to ORB lol. More toying with my Chip tonight, it does alot better than my Core2Duo E6600 did found here http://tinyurl.com/vvlpc. EDIT: and my rig as it stands now ![]() ![]() The window is a WIP, Im still waiting on my plasma cutter and new dremel tool to finish off that side panel with some more mods. |

See you there when I get commando and a R600 , right now the single X1900XTX is holdin me back, as well as ive reached the limitations of the P5B deluxe without a bios that fixes some stuff id have some higher scores on compression and what not running a 975x chipset the 965 isnt as high on performance clock for clock unfortunately.

I'm going to install my Tuniq Tower this afternoon, all in a new case with much better airflow (TJ09). Fingers crossed the extra cooling will get my higher overclocks more stable - I've booted into windows at 3.94 - but can't do anything!

raise your nb and fsb term voltage if you can, that should give you a better OC.

With my new Tuniq Tower (changed fan to Noctua 1200rpm, 55cfm, 19dB) + 5 Noctua 800RPM fans... I made the magical 4.1GHz

Personally, I'd go DFI - haven't had the best experiences with Asus and Ocing

So what is the verdict on the Xeon 3060? I'm torn between buying this or the E6600 since there is only a few dollar difference in price.
TIA! |

3060 just happens to be better weeks, nothing physically different than that. And it seems to clock alot higher while being stable with lower voltage is the general concensus.

Well 3.6 at 1.4V is nothing to sneeze at, starting with a 6300 I got it to 2.8GHz before just stopping at 2.8GHz (I know I could go higher it just seems like 1Ghz over spec is good enough for me
)

With solid air cooling, you can feed the core2duo's and xeon equivalents 1.6-1.7v for quick benching if you have a bench rig. Dont use these for 24/7 voltages though, but a couple hours will just make them go on a trip to the bahamas for a tan. Ive got several chips that ive used those voltages to hit 4.0 and 4.2ghz on P965 platforms. 975x doesnt get too high on FSB as well they need less voltage to boot higher. So its like a tradeoff for either. |

Yeah well 1.7V isn't kids stuff for a C2D. I cringe bringing my AXP up to 1.85-1.9V on air... its gets hella hot.
I notice though that with my AXP the temps don't go up on load when I raise just the clock, but if I keep the clocks stock and raise the voltage wham, temperature abound. Not so with Core 2's. |
