A little OC advice please
Ok thinking caps on overclockers. First im gonna give a little run down of what im running then you can help me out as my maths is terrible.
Ok stock im running with AMD 5200+ @ 2600mhz 1.3v 200x13 Abit AN9 Fatality SLi HT Auto (5) @ 1000mhz 2 GB Geil Ultra DDR2 PC6400 400 (800) @ 2.1V 4-4-4-12 2T BFG 8800GTS 500/800 3DMark06 8200 Now i've done a little crude overclocking that runs 100% stable. Gonna list what it's at then what I did to get it. Just need your help Fine tuning. AMD 5200+ 3003mhz 1.35v 230x13 Idle 24C Load 45C Slow fan speed (silent) Abit AN9 Fatality SLi HT 4 @ 923.5mhz 2GB Geil Ultra DDR2 PC5300 375.2 (750.4) @ 2.1V 4-4-4-12 2T BFG 8800GTS 600/900 3DMark06 9490 5 Hours/ 10 passes Memtest86+ and 2 hours Orthos Now then i'm more than happy with the graphics card so don't worry about that however i'd like to maximize my HT and Ram. Now then the catch the overclock im looking to run is 3GHZ on the processor however I'm pretty rubbish with dividers and am running the stock X13 with decreased Ram speed and HT link. What I need is a divider that will run the Ram closer to it's stated 800mhz without exceeding 3ghz on the processor and 1000mhz on the HT. Many thanks Lel |

The LTD is multiplier between 1x and 5x, which is multiplied by the HTT to give a HT frequency. Usually you can set this to the highest one which will give you an HT frequency of below 1000 MHz. With an HTT of 230, this would be x4, which you already have set.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong on the following, I have little experience with AM2 rigs. Memory dividers are actually a whole number divider of your total cpu speed. I think there should be options for 400, 533, 667, and 800, you'd have it set at 667, right? 667 corresponds to a divider of 8 from your total clockspeed. So from a total clockspeed of 3000, there's no way (no whole number divider) for you to get any closer to 800 then you are already. Your best bet is probably to leave those clockspeeds, and see if you can tighten the timings on the ram at all.

Heheh, yeah, ntune isn't the best of programs.

Can you run that chip with a lower multiplier? It seems if you could, and your mobo could handle it, you could get your ram speed up and your HT up closer to default speeds while still keeping CPU speed reasonable.. Also- doesn't you ram run at 1T? That makes a difference in performance.. maybe it doesn't though, I run DDR1 so I am not sure if DDR2 does run 1T or not. check that out... http://math.gogar.com/athlon64.cgi edit- I've never tried it, but I think with even a "locked" CPU, you can run it at a lower multiplier, but nit a higher one. I think I read that somewhere.. Maybe try it at 12 and see if it boots. If not, maybe try a different lower multiplier until you've ruled them all out of not working.

Erm, guys, I don't think the calculators you posted work too well for him, other than to perhaps help with understanding, since they're all for DDR1 only.

It's ok Zelig I picked up on the calculator thing straight away. It's a bit odd really it's like no body has bought into the X2/DDR2 overclocking thing or at least not as much as the original Athlons.
Anyway after a good 5 hours of testing I have formulated a conclusion. My original crude overclock is about as good and stable as it gets. Can't really complain when a single card GTS now gets just over 9,500 on 3Dmark '06 and 14500 on 3dmark 05. Whole rig is whisper quiet too. Now running a 100% stable 3GHZ. Iv'e no doubt it will run a whole lot quicker in fact I know I still have quite a bit of headroom on the GTS and I temporarily dropped the memory and HT to hit 3.25 ghz but I need something that will run risk free 24/7. |

Yeah I was thinking someone that actually had a similar system to yours (DDR2) would chime in and maybe give you some things to try. Those sites do give you an idea of how the divisors work and whatnot. Sometimes it is your first instinct that is right though. That's what happened to me with my system when going from Nforce 2 to Nforce 4 based system. I just read up on a few things, tried some settings, and they seemed to be about the most stable and fastest it would run.
That might be what you have done.. but you might find you can get a little more out if it, hard to say.
