Need a little advise
as far as overclocking goes i am a little new at it
i have done it before but not to the extent that i now do my problem is i cant seem to find a good solid program for overclocking this M2N-SLI Deluxe board and im looking for suggestions on perhaps one that i can use the program that comes with this board just wont do the trick it doesnt hold clock speeds and , in fact has been known in my case to clock down anyone able to shed some light? |

Overclocking using Windows programs is never permanent - the changes are reverted when you reboot the system. You need to adjust the settings in the BIOS setup.

Rule 1 of Overclocking. You dont do it from windows EVER unless your clockgening for a bench or something. Do it from the bios, if your mobo doesnt allow for bios overclocking. Dont overclock that rig, you will more than likely break something. |

ok thanks well the M2N-SLI board allows for minimal clocking in the bios due to a safety catch that doesnt allow over something close to .2 Ghz over for example my proc is standardly at 2.0 Ghz and i cant get a clock over 2.2 Ghz without what i believe to be my motherboard freezing up and POST erroring
also if i do set the clock higher say perhaps 2.3 Ghz then the clock doent go past 2.2 says CPU-Z and other similar progs |

Are you sure its a safety thing, and not a user input error . Is your voltage inline with all of that?

as ive said before im not very experienced in the whole field but not that you say that im assuming the the voltage has to increase with the frequency to maintain stability and now im the one with the proverbial "egg in face" scenario
thanks |

another update, increasing the voltage side along with the frequency also doesnt help you can put in numbers as high as you want and it wont pull over that 2.2 Ghz mark

At first I would try how much I can overclock the CPU without raising the voltage. After finding the maximum stable frequency I would try to increase the voltage a little to see if it helps anything. If the gain is a few MHz then it's not worth it.
Also you may have to adjust the memory settings. |

yeah i guess the problem is that this board just isnt for overclocking
i dont know for example currently im running at "2.3Ghz" according to BIOS but still 2.0 when i run windows |

now im a little embarrassed
![]() i forgot all about the HT BUS voltage it was running too low and therefore couldnt take the clock with that figured out i am now at a stable 2.3 Ghz and am planning to push to 2.5 with my AC Freezer Pro 64 cooler Last edited by procupine14; Apr 14, 2007 at 11:37 PM. |
