Lowfat, What do you think of the 8600gts' Overclockability

I know you're(were?) Into volt modding and over clocking. Have you looked into the 8600gts reports of it overclocking to 1ghz core clocks? I thought id bring it to your attention if you were still into modding.

i doubt the 8600GTS will be able to hit 1Ghz core clock. Even if modded. Some factory overclocked models are well over 700Mhz already. I'd say if a volt mod was introduced, possibly 850Mhz, but not 1Ghz core.

and yes, i know i'm not Lowfat

I already use an 8800GTS 320 superclocked in my system and an 8800 GTS 640 in my GFs system, so i wouldn't be buying an 8600GTS anytime soon.

The 8600GTS is good overclocker, but still a pretty poor performer.

even most 7600s perform better than the 8600s. Although they definately don't OC as nicely.

You gotta invest in good cooling, and get an enthusiast board and some nice hardware and it wont laugh at you when you try to OC it

actually, you can put on any kind of cooling solution on your EVGA products. however, IF you need to submit an RMA for warranty issues, be sure to keep the serial number stick on the card and that you have the OEM cooling solution properly installed before submitting the RMA. It doesn't matter what you've had on the card before, so long as the card itself is not physically damaged or altered from its original condition.l

so, you can water-cool it, put on an aftermarket HSF assembly, or whatever, but if you need an RMA, be sure it's back to its original condition .

my board doesn't even let me try, there's no options to manually adjust clock speeds, buses, ect...
AT ALL
you can adjust DRAM timings a little bit and that's it, so at the moment there's no need for me to invest in a big sweaty heatsink
(i would quite like one though)
