Pointers
This is the first time I've ever overclocked anything, and I didn't do too bad but it just seems like I'm stuck. I can only OC my 3700+ 1.4 ghz before I get strange issues in windows. I can run a 3dmark, or play a game, but eventually most programs won't launch, when I try to open them I'll immediately get an "encountered a problem" error. My memory is OCZ Platinum 2x1gig running in dual channel.
I had the same type of luck with my gfx card, a x1950pro. I managed to up the GPU core only 14 mhz before I could make it through a run of 3dmark05. My computer won't even boot at 2.475 ghz on my cpu, I get a strange display showing me "AWARD!" the maker of my bios, nothing else though. I just don't understand why I wouldn't be able to start at 2.475 ghz while people are OCing the very same San Diego core up to 2.7ghz on stock coolers. Anything obvious I'm overlooking? |

Also run speedfan and report back some temps you are getting.

My motherboard is an ASUS a8n-sli se, chipset is nForce4. My CPU idles at 40c, and with my current OC, will play in games at around 48c. GPU idles at 40, never goes above 56 or so under load.

The multiplier for this processor is x11, so I just moved the FSB(I believe) up to 212 (Currently stable) to end up with 2.33 ghz frequency. CPU voltage is 1.4v at the moment. Memory timings are SPD settings of 2-3-2-5, running at 1T.

Be happy with whatever OC you can get, its very hardware limited as the mobo might not be able to run it or the chip might not be able to...could even be your ram...There are so many variables, I would be of more help if I ever got into AMD ocing haha.... Sorry, but your not gonna see much diff in performance from the clocks your talking.

Without extreme voltages and/or extreme cooling you won't see much better methinks.
