My new HSF...
ok so far i havent seen many wonderful things... with my SK7 and Smartfan 2... i guess my CPU temps are about 10 degrees cooler but i was expecting to probably have my CPU temps go from the regular 51 degrees on my old cooler to about 30-36 degrees on this new one (celsius of course...). But anyways though... yea. I used Antec Reference thermal compound instead of the stuff that came with my Heatsink... should i switch?

if you wanna hit mid 30's you'll probably have to go with a duct. when hsf just pulls and used inside case temps it is limited how it can perform circulating hot inside pc case air. Now a duct will allow hsf to draw in nice, much cooler (usually lol) ambient air.

![]() Your fan is blowing down onto the CPU, right? Does that pull in a lot of dust?

yep fan blowing down. I always have it blowing down. I heard it like this once.... if it were a hot sunny day outside do you want a fan blowing air onto you or "sucking" the hot air off of you... Since then, I've always had them blowing down onto cpu. And it does draw in the duxt but with thumbless screws on side cover, its only about a 3 minute clean job once every few weeks (or as I notice the temp increasing in mbm
)

I did that on my old beater case just for kicks, nothing special, just strictly for kicks. I used window screen to keep it dust free (at least somewhat). It worked well, dropped CPU temp by 4-5C.

hey GS, also keep in mind that if you're using the NF7, it registers right at 7c higher than true temp. So deduct 7c off what ever reported temp you are getting

Whoah.... Shuki. I've found that the NF7-S read 7C higher and the NF7(non S) reads the right temps

I KNOW the nf7-s does because I have that board and personally saw the difference in my rig. I too *THOUGHT* that it was not just the nf7-s as the temp monitoring is the same on both boards and both use the same BIOS wouldn't really make sense that the nf7-s reports high but the nf7 does not.... Euro, where did you read that the ~7c high reported temps were exclusive to the S model and not the standard NF7?? GS - I'm 99.9% sure it applies to both nf7 and nf7-s.... Obviously the 7 in the name "nf7" means 7° higher

I know the NF7 (non S) ran 7C cooler cuz I used to own it. I ran it with BIOS 16 for a while. And now I have my NF7-S 1.2 and I run it and it says 7C higher.

Is he running an NF7 or NF7-S ...... cuz I know there are several people who say NF7 when they really mean NF7S. And in my post i meant my NF7 (non S) would report a temp that was more reasonable. The NF7-S reports somewhere close to 7C higher than the NF7 did.

No, not you. Just people in other forums. They say "NF7" cuz they are too lazy to type that S, or don't know of an NF7 (non S)
