case cooling question
while this has nothing to do with OCing, i figured it would be the best place to ask.
long story short, my new x1950xt puts out a ton of heat. the card its self runs cool with how the TEC works, but its generating alot of heat. its brought my case and CPU temps up quite abit because of that. and with it just being summer, its getting even hotter. ive got a Xaser3 case wich has 2 80mm intakes in the front, 2 80mm intakes in the side panel, 2 80mm exahusts in the rear, and 1 80mm exhaust in the top. the front, rear, and top i think can all be left alone, but im wondering if the sides should be changed? what im thinking is either changing them both to exhausts, this way it would suck the hot air comeing off the cards right out. the fans are positiond almost right up against the video card and the cpu HS fan. the other thing im thinking is leaving the lower fan as an intake, and the upper fan an exhausts? the problem that i could see with that though is that the hot air just starts circulating. to give you an idea of how warm things are right now... 68F out side 33C case ambiant temp 44c CPU (not at idle, 45-50% load) hit a high of 57C last night. used to max out at 48C before the 1950xt was put in. 41c video

Short of water cooling i'm not sure what to suggest, if you can try adding more fans blowing cold air into the case, this should blow the hot air to the back, and as it rises it (theoretically) will be pulled out by the top exhaust.
just a suggestion, prolly won't help but at least i tried right? :/ |

Why is it Beeping!?!?!

if you have a fan on the side of your case that is really close to being directly over the card
perhaps you can turn that one into an exhaust that may help your problem out as for anything else im not really sure it seems that you're running into the same problem i have with my cpu. Since i overclock my CPU a lot it generates a big amount of heat. The problem being with my application is that my case doesnt posses the room or the outlets to have a bigger fan at the back therefore my hot air sort of pools and swirls in my case. I used some incense (the smoke and found that out) but that may be what you can do |

As long as you have air coming in somewhere, the more exhaust fans the better. It creates a vacuum and forces more air draw through the front, as well as basically evacuating any heat.
Looks to me like that's exactly what I'd do in your situation too. Worst comes to worst, you try it, it fails miserably, you cry... you put it back... you stop crying... life moves on. |
