CPU idle 85c
Hey guys I got the Pentium D 805 (first duel core), and it idles at 85c and in games goes to 100c! The rated temp for this processor is just 60c, I have the D101ggc intell express mobo with a stock fan, im just wondering whats the cause of these insane temperatures I know its summer and its hot in here but thats a dangerous temp I had this computer for less then a year and I wanna get it a new cooler see if that helps, the people who put my computer together probably just suck it was MDG so thats probably it they didnt use the thermo paste or something.

Sounds like your coolers isn't mounted properly or the fan is not running.
Remount your cooler, check if there is paste, clean the fan and make sure it's running and connected to the motherboard. |

Going Insane.....

get a real temp probe and check it with that if possible, sometimes mobos detect heat inaccurately.....
your chip would have died a long time ago at those temps.....

Ive checked it in the bios and with speedfan, I have a cheap mobo and it displays cpu as remote but I know its the cpu because if I run a cpu benchmark its the thing that goes up.
Not sure if the sensor is right or not I know its really hot but chips run this hot sometimes I mean my graphics card runs 100 in games and thats considered fine for a gpu so cpus can handle it too, the pentium d 805 is known to produce the most heat out of all the dual cores.

They also throttle down to avoid taking damage, so although the temps may well be a bit off you probably are right on track in getting a high performance cooler for overclocking. I've got no specific idea on what to get though. We have at least a few current or previous Pentium-D users on the forum so perhaps someone does have a good tip. Overclocking those powerhungry chips may make "silent" cooling a bit tough but if you don't mind some noise there ought to be a number of candidates to choose from.

engineering defect in stock Intel heatsink/fan units
for LGA-775 socket CPUs -- http://www.supremelaw.org/systems/heatsinks/warning.htm if you use the stock Intel heatsink and fan, then try reinstalling it, this includes clean and reapplied its thermal compound during the installation, if you cannot find the Intel thermal compound that comes with the stock processor's heatsink, you can try to use any third party processor's heatsink paste. |

I got the arctic freezer 7 pro and its great applyed the thermal paste to my best ability and temps are now 50 and 60 in 3d apps im so happy im dancing around
Here is some temps, 52 idle and 66 on max stress using prime95 pretty good and this is now overclocked to 3.66 so im happy with this cooler its amazing for 30 dollers with tax Artic Freezer Pro 7. When I saw the old paste there was barley any there thats why my cpu was running so hot it had no paste on it basically. Ive been reading more about the thermal paste, I bought one with the thing so I took off the paste they had on there better to do it fresh plus i bought arctic silver 5 paste its supposed to be good and I hear first u should run ur computer for a long time and then leave it off for the paste the settle, is that right?
