thermal(loud)take

Has anyone ever used any of the thermaltake heat sinks available for the geforce cards? I bought one and I am getting the exact same temps as the stock heat sink. One thing I notice is that the finger chopper is extremely loud, its whizzing by at around 5500 rpms. Do you think that thermaltake invented the really loud fans on the geforce fx cards? I noticed alot of their products are louder than tolerable

Crash Override is an unknown quantity at this point

I have a thermaltake volcano 9 for my HSF with the smart fan 2

I sleep only a couple feet away from my computer with the side of the case open and hardly notice any noise (matter of fact my power supply fan is louder than my HSF and my vid card cooler (also made by TT)

Could it just be you got a bad fan?

I can't say that they all are loud. Yes, my Smart Fan2 can be really loud. But I wouldn't say all there products are loud.

I was just refering to my fan on my new heat sink for my geforce vid card it is so loud that I can here it from the other room. You would think that a fan that was almost twice the size as the stock fan and spins almost twice as fast that it would make a better cooling product. I have a volcano 9 that I dont use anymore because it was loud, (I cant stand any fan noise) at any decent cooling setting. What I cant understand is that they make heat sinks that are 100 percent copper. They use copper in some of the best cookware because it holds heat a lot longer than stainless by itself, go figure.

Ah so your complaint is that you can hear your PC across the room?

I can guarantee that you would be able to regardless of if that particular fan was in your PC or not

No such thing as a completely silent PC anymore.

As for the 100% copper thing.

Do you even know anything about HSF's? Heatsinks that are copper absorb the heat faster and rely on the fan to cool it back down.

My question is how do you know that the core on your GPU isnt running cooler?

I have a temp probe on the back side that does not change (not a 100 percent acurate) and I scan a laser type infared gun beside the vid card reading the temp deep within the .100 gap left behind (which jumps up to 121 deg F). I said from the other room not the same room ( which with the stock fan my pc was wisper quiet, except every once in a while you actually hear the water moving through the rad) And as far as copper goes you cant cool it fast enough it needs to be part copper and mostly aluminum to be eficient. And yes I know quite a bit about cooling.

then why were you complaining about their heatsinks being all copper?

The volcano9 is copper base/aluminum body

alot of their stuff is built that way

and I guarantee it wasnt this cooler you were hearing from the other room

and this isnt a water cooling system so I dont know what you are talking about hearing the water go through it

Copper is a great material for conducting heat, which means it can pull the heat off of your CPU faster than aluminum, however aluminum is a better material for dissipating heat. One down side to copper is that it weighs more, a lot more. Another disadvantage is that these copper heat sinks generally cost more than their aluminum counterparts.
