Yup, look around, loads of overclocking info. It's not easy though, so dont do it unless you know what youre doing.

wow... i have just read a bunch of crap... i will applaude you if you can overclock a pentium 4 on a dell mobo... its REALLY hard to oc those... actually i dont think you can do it... usually dell or other name brand companies will try to stop you from being able to OC... maybe if you unlock the processor and then use software to OC... and btw maxwell... OCing lowers the CPU'S life expectancy... not the whole PC... and even then only to about 5 years or so. Depending on the severity of the overclock... ok yea... either i dont think you can unlock a pentium 4 or its so hard taht few people have been able to figure it out... because i cannot find a guide for it... i would give up now because i really dont think you can do it on a dell mobo and a pentium 4.

so, basiclly , you mean that its impossible to unlock aP4?? by saying unlock, it means by adjusting the multiplyier, right?? how 'bout the jumper free mode on Asus boards?? can you help me with that??

Intel chips are multiplier locked. Raising the FSB is the only way to OC them.

but you can unlock them and they are also FSB locked... but the motherboard is what unlocks the FSB... but if you unlock the processor fully then you can change the multiplyer too...

I don't think it is possible to unlock dell's motherboards in order to overclock cpu's. I don't think you can unlock any motherboard from manufacturers like dell, gateway, hp, alienware, falcon. They are set at one speed, and they will only work at that setting.

You cannot unlock a P4. You need a motherboard that can manipulate the multiplier and FSB settings.

" to adjust the first 4 fields(which is the CPU clock, multiplier, fsb and Vcore), you must activate the jumperfree mode, and to adjust the Fsb and the Vcore, you must set the CPU clock to manual......." so ,now, i can only adjust the fsb cause its quite easy, 'bout the jumperfree mode, i do not know how to activate it?? any ideas??( there's no instruction in the manual ) |

Most aftermarket boards do allow overclocking the P4. It's the cheap ones that come with prebuilt Compaq, HP, Sony.......... etc that won't allow it.

One: You have a DELL... you can not overclock an OEM computer. (barring replacing the motherboard, and the propriatary power supply) Two: you can not unlock a Pentium4 processor. The Multipliers are locked to a specific setting... and can not be altered. Three: If you are wanting to enter the overclockers arena... build your own rig (we would be more than happy to help you in this) Lastly: Welcome to the site, and please, enjoy your stay.

ill add something to WyreTheWolf wise words
first thing the p4 is locked on the cpu itself second theres no visible way to unlock it the only reason you can unlock amd and the new tbred are unlocked is becuse amd wants ppl to overclock it isnt fully unlocked on palys and t-bred(up to 12.5 for low t-bred) becuse they dont want ppl to mark the cpus so that the amazing xp1700 wont be marked as an xp2400 for instance same thing with intel only there more strict |
