help pushing the 3 Ghz mark
so i got my 5200+ up to 2.989 Ghz and i can't get it up any higher stable my system is listed in the left. Any suggestions? I'm wondering if my RAM needs to be OCed to get a higher operating frequency or what i need to change to get it there.

![]() ![]() maybe thats a little easier to see lol also CPU voltage is at 1.375v and "CPU / chipset HT voltage" is @ 1.35v <-- i have no idea what that is but its in BIOS with the advanced voltage options and Chipset Core volts is 1.5v

also, could my instability be caused by a PSU that can't handle the extra voltage required to push this rig?
EDIT: so now I've clocked down to about 10% over stock speeds (sitting at a flat 2.9Ghz) and I'm having some problems.....when my system gets up to ner peak load with stress testing or with 3d mark i get random restarting.....i know it isn't a temp issue so that is definitely not the issue so any thoughts?

just a thought...
Try setting your hypertransport multiplyer to x4. Hypertransport needs to stay around 1000Mhz *2000Mhz effective* to maintain stability.

so you mean that i need to take down my multiplier and then push the Bus speed through the roof?
honestly, i haven't ever really pushed my rig far enough to really get to know the whole OCing business and there are a lot of settings in my mother board that I am really unfamiliar with so i need some definite help

no, what i mean is drop your Hyper transport multiplier to about x4 so its around 960
Then your FSB @ 232*13= 3.016GHz You may want to run your ram a tad loose and undercloked till you get the speed you want then tighten it up and crank the speed up, only way to do this is trial and error, i think your problem is your HT speed tho. You also may want to take a look here x2 5200+ - SLI Zone Forums |

Further testing shows that I can't get my computer to go past the Windows XP boot screen when the HT multiplier is down to X4

Yeah....i was kind of afraid of that. Even when I clock it back downand change that multiplier it refuses to boot. It basically comes up to the load screen and the HDD acts like its going to load and then just stops....no activity. So yeah looks like I'm not going higher than 2.9 with this chip

yeah i tried that too....it didn't work...just caused the same problems with locking up and freezing
EDIT: further thoughts should i look at HT width? or anything with RAM timings? also chipset voltage

Chipset voltage would have alot to do with it as well, same with timings if your RAM speed is increasing, then you need to either a) increase voltage b) loosen timings. |

well.....after extensive tweaking and cursing I got a boot at over 3 Ghz....but then it started restarting every few minutes.......WHY!!>!??!?!?!?!!?
how much voltage increase/timing decrease is needed or is safe in the case of voltage to get this thing going? from what i've seen in this motherboard there is no way of adjusting the operating frequency of the RAM it appears to be locked at 800Mhz
