Best Intel 775 Heatsink?
I got Artic Freezer Pro 7 on one side (currently using it in all my intel machines.... damn good price and excellent performance.. much better then the intel verisons by far.)
And trying to find a more RECENT top performing heatsink... appears to be the scythe infinity which looks like artic freezer on steroids... which should i get? One that i KNOW works quite well, or one that looks like it would work better? Perhaps someone else would recommend something BETTER?

If you're not running hot then there is no reason to change. I use the Artic Freezer Pro 7 too, on my OCed e6400@3g and it runs cool enough. The scythe is a little better, but last time I looked it was about 3x the price.

your board has the CrazyCool back-plate, i suggest you find out how to install a CPU cooler that requires its own back-plate to be installed (if you are not already know)
then these will be my choice... Thermalright IFX-14 Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme otherwise, my second choice... for cooler with no back-plate and for an easy installation... but these will have less cooling power compared to the above, but it still should be okay if you have no plan for high overclock. Scythe Ninja Plus Rev.B Scythe MUGEN. |

neither of the 2 NEED a back plate.. (they mount no different then a stock heatsink
)and pangingjr... the scythe mugen IS the sycthe infinity (not sure why manufacturers have to constantly change the name of a product)

which two? MUGEN is the name of it in Japan go ahead buy both the Scythe Ninja Plus Rev.B and Scythe MUGEN they are not expensive (don't they?) and try them both, i think you will like the Ninja more than the MUGEN. Last edited by PangingJr; Oct 26, 2007 at 06:35 PM. |

Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme is the top performer on the market, beats the Thermalright IFX-14. Received mine yesterday and it does require a backplate.

Judas, i know these 3 cooler will mount no different then a stock heatsink... Ninja Plus Rev.B, MUGEN and Freezer Pro 7.
as about the MUGEN, i think it's MUGEN everywhere now and unless the store still having INFINITY in their stock INFINITY COOLER 1200rpm 23.5dBA 46.5CFM 960g MUGEN (improved and with new stock Scythe fan) 1200rpm 25.0dBA 68.54CFM 930g |

sometimes i don't understand you at all, Judas. lol, stop worry and check them out to see if they will fit with the board and all. or just buy them all and try/test them all by yourself , and for the ones you don't want to use it, you can still use them later with other system don't you? check out the sunbeam tuniq tower 120 and zalman 9700NT too.

I prefer to buy one thing and have it work.. without having to test everything.... ( i take measurements... and figure everything out.. do as much research as i can)
it saves me money

Tuniq Tower second place, Thermalright Ultima 90 third place, if you put a real nasty fan on it it will just keep up with the Tuniq Tower.

na... i'm not going for absalutely over the top.... just relatively damn good..
i think the infinity one is to big for my likely and WAY to bloody expensive.. .the freezer 7 pro will likely be what i get.... it's proven to be excellent for the price

i think that is better Judas, just stop worry about CPU cooler and just start with the one you have, and start overclocking the hell out of your system?, it'll tell you what you will need next, or not.

![]() With a roomtemp of about 25C here is Thermalright Ultra120Extreme with Q6600 G0 @ 3.6ghz and about 1.475v applied in BIOS. Note Coretemp values in the top right hand corner of the pic. 35/35 on the active cores (desktop at idle load on them), and 33C on the idle ones.

Dear Chaos...
I just figured out what's holding me up @ 13.8k - I cannot run a 1:1 FSB:RAM ratio without better RAM cooling and more voltage. Thanks for this enlightening message. Also, for what it's worth with 23C ambient, my Thermaltake V1 (lol) is @ 41C Idle, 46C semi-loaded. It actually dropped to 37C after I screenied this, having just dropped WoW before hosting the pic. ![]() Read: The Thermaltake V1 shouldn't even be factored. |

![]() btw Judas your QX6850 ( sSpec Number: SLAFN - Processor Spec Finder ) is on the top of the desktop processors of Intel right now, the name of your processor is "Intel® Core™2 Extreme processor QX6850" (it's in Intel Core 2 Extreme family, not Intel Core 2 Quad). just thought you might want to change your profile. and as seeing you like to use all the top-end system CPU, now QX6850 and as i recall, before was QX6700... you might want to be ready for the new coming Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9650? and about speaking of CPU cooler's, have a see this, i saw the other day, it gave me the impression of a omg wow, WOW, OMG!. .. lol. 1.42v 4.5G 1m on air with a 10$ cooler XtremeSystems Forums - View Single Post - qx9650 brief test |

you need to respect the CPU you use don't downgrade it.... not just by using a wrong name anyway, lol. it's a Core 2 Extreme, the top-end model of most of Intel desktop processors is da best lol a lot more FSB headroom's for you to play with it than the lesser spec processors.

Personally I'd go for either the AC Freezer Pro, or the Scythe Ninja Plus Rev.B. over the Infinity. Mind you, if you can mount the Ninja, get it over the AC as it is a better unit. I'm not sure if you've noticed it, but for some reason the ACFP, at low speed, can sometimes make a low clicking hum sound. With the case on you won't notice it unless you have it off, or you have venting on the side panel. With the Ninja it's hardly noticeable being 6dba quieter (btw, the AC is rated at 0.7 sones, or 26.3 dba, while the Ninja Plus Rev.B is rated at 20.94dba.. so definitely quieter). Also, because of the fan size the Ninja Plus pushes more air too overall too.
Why the Ninja over the Infinity? For one, at lower speeds it pushes more air even though the fan is the same size, but it's also quieter overall. When the heat cranks up though, and the fan starts kicking into higher gear, the Infinity would be a better bet, because at higher speeds the Infinity pushes more air. If you were going to OC, this would be the one to get. |

the cooling power of both Scythe CPU cooler's depends directly on the fan's performance, the Scythe fans that comes with them will not be good enough when comes to overclocking, and a better replacement for them is mostly preferred by overclockers, as well as some may prefer using a dual-fan configuration on them.

I disable QnQ for AMD platforms and disable intel's smartfan (or whatever system controlls the throttleing of the fans) completely on all the system i build.. so the fans are cranking over full rpm at all times...
so fan speeds aren't really a concern unless they are ungodly loud

In that case I'd go with the Ninja Plus Rev.B. At full speed it's quieter than the Freezer Pro (in fact, at full blast the ACFP and the stock cooler are no different noise wise).
I remember an article once that did a side by side review of the stock C2D fan (regular copper version, but not the larger copper block one used for the Q or Extreme), AC Freezer Pro, and the Ninja Plus Rev.B. While at it's slowest speed the ACFP was the quietest, it was only marginally so below the Ninja. Going up in speed the Ninja remained quieter than the other 2, and at full blast never went above 39db. Both the ACFP and the stock cooler were well over 45db at full speed. |
