rolleyes Active to Precharge Time

ok, from point of experience with other settings 2-2-2 , which one do you think is better for Active To Precharge Time, 5 or 6 ? I have read somewhere that 6 is better, generally they said that memory should stay open for as long as possible to disscharge, but I seem to have different behavior with 6... Does it has anything to do with "Read arround writte" setting (is this better on or off) ?

I just benched mine both with 5 and with 6 using sandra mem bench. As memmory serves the 5 was a hair faster than the 6 but IMO no "real time" diff. In other words it showed faster in bench numbers but performance increase could not be "felt" in day to day apps and stuff. If I were you, I'd just set it to 5 and bench sandra mem and 2k1 and then set it to 6 and bench eash again. If you do, post up your results here as I'd be interested to see how it turns out.

Will do

OK, I will bench that again, I did that couple of times, but it's not the benchmark that confuses me, it is the HDD performance, as alaways, benchmarks are syntetic and showing only memory speed itself, I will try multimedia benchmark, I gues that will somewhat give a clearer answer...I'll come back with the resaults soon.

but the 5 and 6 settings have nothing to do with the hdd performance. only the memory performance of handling the data....

but again, that has nothing to do with the hdd itself its the memory that causes the corruption by not handling the data properly. I am presently at 205fsb at 5-2-2-2 with 2x256 pc3500 hyperX and have had zero problems... *knocks on wood*

ok, here are my findings after extensive analysing )

Sysoft sandra 2002 SP1

after 3 runs:

2-2-2-6 = 1947/1837
MM benchmark = 8438/9338

2-2-2-5 = 1951/1835
MM benchmark = 8440/9327

Seems to me that "you win some, you lose some" case...
I will personally go for stability on this one, that would be
setting "6" if it affects stability anyway...Also for RAW
(read arround write) I did some benchmarks and found that HDD benches
give more score with RAW dissabled.
Are there any other experiences ?

btw. Benchmarks are done with no OC-ing in WinXP SP1(like it matters)

As for memory and HDD's, yes you are correct, but some settings that yield more performance with GFX cards can have opposite effect on, let's say, sound card. My SB !Live Player doesen't like precharge time set on 5, perhaps the PCI brdge has something to do with it, but I think it's due to not enough time to charge/dissscharge sounds (?!)...I get grrabling sound somethimes in games like "No one lives forewer 2"...
