Aah! I fried something!

Ok, maybe not. I tried going the pinmod to unlock the multipliers above 12.5 on my Dragon KT333 Ultra Platinum mobo with an Athlon XP-m 2400+ (35w). I was trying to get it to run at stock speeds with the stock x14 multiplier. It didn't work, and now I am getting what seems to be a memory error beep-code when I boot up. (infininte long beeps) What can I do to save this?! I built this machine to use with a voodoo 5500 AGP and if the mobo is dead then I have to do more searching on e-bay for one that I could replace it with...

I'm going to try swapping memory with this machine tommorow, but it's too late here, I have to sleep. If switching memory doesn't help, I'm going to be really upset... these parts were NOT easy to find.

Pin modding is never good, just OC'ing the athlon in the first place will have been enough to scare off any retailer, but the pin modding will probably just get you kicked out the store.
Only thing i can suggest is replacing the CPU, and perhaps going intel if you have the cash

I wasn't technically overclocking it, I was just trying to unlock the default multiplier before I even considered overclocking. The whole point of this build was to have a functioning agp 2x machine for me to use with my voodoo cards.

Is there any one that can actually be helpful...? I know it's a bit old, but any help would be nice. I know it's not the memory, and it's also not the processor; tried them in another machine. Does someone know of a way to reset the motherboard or something to that effect? It would kinda suck if I fried my mobo...

Oh, and I'm sure that I didn't get anything stuck in the socket, I've completely removed the pinmod, and it was only one jumper. I think I'll post a diagram of the two pins I crossed...

Yeah if the CPU works in another machine i'd probably say it is the mobo, which socket is it btw?
Your best bet is to ebay hunting then

Socket A pin-modding was never very popular for this exact reason; too high a chance of damaging the motherboard.

Let me know what you used to do the pin-mod and I might be able to think of a remedy. Meanwhile, you may want to re-assemble the system carefully and try one RAM module in all slots, just in case.

That's the diagram of the pinmod I did; it was only supposed to unlock multiplier settings above 12.5 on the bios, and obviously it didn't work. I can't find the original site I found it on, it wasn't the site that has the interactive thing. But I do know what pins I crossed. I did it with a tiny bit of wire from a dead PSU I've had lying around, and I took it out as soon as I realized that resetting the cmos didn't work and that it wasn't the memory.

Quite obvious why this didn't work; the pin-mod wouldn't work with Barton cores.

How thick was the wire you inserted? If you inserted a wire too thick into the socket holes you probably damaged the in-socket contacts. Try inserting two small individual wires in each of the socket holes, although I doubt it can be that easy to fix.

It was supposed to work specifically with unrecognized mobile barton cores... I just used the picture of the socket from that site. I used the smallest wire I could find; a small piece of steel wire from an old PSU cable. I will try using a couple bits of wire in each hole.

Probably an MSI KT3 Ultra2. I heard they're supposed to be really good.
