Is It Possible To Get My Memory Up To Speed

I've finished upgrading my computer with a new processor, motherboard and memory. I've now got a Gigabyte GA-X48T-DQ6, Intel e8400 processor and 4 gigs of G.Skill DDR3 1600 memory. I've managed to get my processor running where it's supposed to at 3.0 GHz and 333x9. But my memory is running at 1066 with a voltage of 1.255. Could someone tell me what to do to get my memory running wheres it's supposed to. I have the latest Bios for the X48T-DQ6 which is F5a. I've copied the settings from my Bios in the section labeled MB Intelligent Tweaker (MIT) and put a list here for you to look at. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If there is some other info you might require, please let me know.

let the bios do it by spd - mem settings on auto. then use freware prog like cpuz to see what u got.

Basically, you can't set your memory to 1600 at 333FSB because 1:2 is the highest divider (i.e., System Memory Multiplier (SPD)....: 4.00D). You could get there by raise the FSB to 400 and lower the CPU multi to 8 while leaving the divider where it is. You'd get a mild oc to 3.2 to boot.

Thanks, Pyongmu. I will give that a try.

Well, I gave it a try, a few minutes after booting back into windows I got a BSOD. Went back to where I was before. What the heck is going on? What am I missing?

The information I'm getting from CPU-Z 1.44 is confusing.

Does this info make any sense to you?

Yes it does make perfect sense all that is showing you is what your current speed is at with the settings in your system. It will change when you adjust the bios as pyongmu has said but if your looking for better gaming performance then you may want to consider leaving the memory at it's current speed and adjusting the timings as games benefit more from lower latency than higher speed memory as I am running crucial ballistix PC8500 1066Mhz 5-5-5-15 but I have it clocked at 800Mhz 4-4-4-14 and it has given me a substantial performance increase in 3-D apps I also have teted it at stock speed and timings and then at 800Mhz with stock timings and and there was really no difference in performance at the lower speed but adjusting the timings to a lower latency boosted performance but in order to set the timing's to a lower latency most memory would have to clocked lower than their maximum speed to have the head room to adjust the timing's as in my case my memory won't take the timing adjustment at 1066Mhz which is the max speed for my memory in order for my memory to be set to a lower latency I have to run it at 800Mhz so in your case where your memory is capable of running at 1600Mhz and you have it running at 1066Mhz adjusting the latency to lower timing's will increase performance.

No go. Changed the settings as advised. Within a few moments I got a BSOD. Every time I to to change the settings other than the default settings for the e8400 (9x, 333x9) the computer is completely unstable and crashes. Have I gotten a defective board?

I believe your mobo is not giving your memory enough volts to work properly at 1600. Try setting it manually to 1.9V (+.4), which is the specified voltage for your G.Skill's.

the CPU core voltage was set too high, you won't need that high voltage for the CPU clock speed.

Ok, I've tried those settings that you have suggested, PJ. Bottom line is I could not even boot into windows. I got a BSOD almost before I hit the MS label. I'm beginning to think its time to RMA this memory. Think so?

i need to get my hand on your system for 5 mins lol sorry i couldn't help.
you've been having problems with this system since starting the setup, and as i understand, there has been quite a bit of times that you need to do a system reset or a manually shutdown,
i think so, yeah, just RMA the RAM first, and then go from there and try the settings again once you get a new RAM kit back to you. keep us posted.

No problemo, PJ. You probably would have saved me alot of grief. There are sometimes where I feel like I know practically nothing when it comes to computers, My learning curve with this setup has been very high. About the ram, should I try another set of G.Skill ddr3 1600 or try some other brand like OCZ or Corsair. I will contact newegg tonight and get the RMA process started.

I RMAed my 4 gogs of the G.Skill HZ memory back to Newegg this morning, I'd had enough with that memory. It was time to return it as it would not function correctly. I'm running Vista Ultimate 32-bit at the moment with a two gig set of the same G.Skill memory. Same timing, same voltage and am wondering if the setting for the Bios you've given me will work with them, PJ. I don't see why it wouldn't, but I'd thought I would ask you before I started messing around again.

i was not sitting at front of your system so i just wanted to check your board and the RAM's and by using the settings it may tells me something that i wanted to know at the time. but, since you already returned the RAM kits, i don't see any need to check with the settings anymore.

anyways, i'm glad to see you are able to set your preferred RAM setting.
and if you need more help about overclocking and/or voltage settings you may want to post your current BIOS settings on the M.I.T. page and i'll have more idea of what's going on there.

You're welcome.
i think you will pick up the experience you need to help you choose the correct or a better BIOS setting very soon, just keep trying and playing with all the BIOS options and setiings, and remember or save in a profile for the settings that worked best for you.
i also think both your board and RAM are quite a good products and i hope you enjoy using them.
