Ive been messing around with aircooling

Well I decided to spend more money recently and went to see just what I could do with some nice hardware at a good price with the old aircooling.

These are the parts I used.

Epox 8RDA+
OCZ3500 DDR 2CAS 2x256
AMD 2600XP+ stock 2133mhz
Sparkle 400w PSU
Radeon 9800 pro 128 meg
80 gig WD JB SE
Thermalright SLK900/modded 92mm fan @ 5500rpm (40ish DB)
Lian Li PC60

After bolting on the SLK900 monster, which is IMO the best heatsink out there, I decided to see how hard it would be to get an easy overclock of 2300mhz.

so putting in the CPU into the mobo i cranked it up to 11.5x200 and raised the core to 1.8. testing went well. ran the usual benchies 3dmark2001/2003 etc got around 17k and 6.3k respectively. then ran pcmark got around 7000cpu and 6000 ram. 1110HD.

going back into the bios, I decided to crank it to 12x200=2400mhz and reckoning the thermalright SLK900 would handle it, raised the core voltage to 1.875.

being sure to check the temperatures I was happy to see an idle of around 37c even at these voltages.

so after running sandra etc and the benchies above again I got the following results.

pcmark2002 http://service.futuremark.com/compare?pcm=1299400

3dmark2003 http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k3=758577

3dmark2001 wouldnt accept the result for some reason saying "This project can not be published due to detected CPU speed variation." 17,690 incidentally
Operating System Microsoft Windows XP

DirectX Version 9.0

Mobo Manufacturer

Mobo Model nVidia-nForce

AGP Rates (Current/Available) 8x / 4x 8x

CPU Unknown 2387 MHz

FSB 198 MHz

Memory 512 MB

Graphics Chipset ATI RADEON 9800 Series

Driver Name RADEON 9800 PRO

Driver Version 6.14.10.6343

Video Memory 128 MB

Program Version 3DMark2001 SE

Resolution 1024x768 32bit

Texture Format Compressed

FSAA Disabled

Z-Buffer Depth 24bit

Frame Buffer Double

Rendering Pipeline D3D Pure Hardware T&L

Detailed Test Results
3DMark Score 17690 3D marks

Game 1 Car Chase - Low Detail 236.7 FPS

Game 1 Car Chase - High Detail 77.5 FPS

Game 2 Dragothic - Low Detail 339.8 FPS

Game 2 Dragothic - High Detail 180.1 FPS

Game 3 Lobby - Low Detail 205.0 FPS

Game 3 Lobby - High Detail 91.2 FPS

Game 4 Nature 144.9 FPS

but it took the result from the 2300mhz test 11.5x200 result here http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=6485400

I just thought I would share my latest experiment with you guys. nothing that hardcore, but its got some nice components and its pretty quiet, just shows how easy it can be to break a nice figure with aircooling still !

crazy overclock is on a distinguished road

That's a good performance you got there; I myself just bought this XP1700+ JHIUB and got it to 1.75 Ghz np so far.
This is on aircooling too, but unlie your kickass SLK900, mine is a cheapo CompUsa copper heatsink bought for 20 bucks

Excellent results, especially with the memory. Just thinking about the possibilities with Promethea is mind boggling

Nice, those are some very good numbers! That SLK900 sounds really sweet. Have you used a SLK800 before? Just wanna know if it's worth upgrading

yeah ive used one but I couldnt make a direct comparision with this system as I havent got the 800 to compare. ive read some articles and spoken to a guy in a store over here I know well and he says temps should drop around 2-5c with the 900 from the 800.

Are you strictly an AMD man, have your overclocked any Intel stuff...I have never used Althon and prefer to experiement with Intel, was it floating point performance that influence your opinion or the mobo..

I like Intel as well, im not strictly an AMD man, but my personal opinion is that AMD offer a better all round processor when you take in the price/power ratio. just my opinion though.

My friend has a 3 gig P4 cpu and its very nice, performs well. ill have to borrow it from him and overclock the hell out of it.

Off to the store

They have a strictly AMD build store here, all mom and pop, but they overclock all the time..gonna see their monsters...of course they all play Medal Of Honor...maybe I will bring along a flight sim like IL2 Sturmovik...and frankly, they all use ATI too, impressive

My PCMark score

The memory and CPU scores are something to brag about, but that HDD score is something I wish I could purge from that nice score of mine!

2.4B @ 3.33 Ghz (For now! My North Bridge controller is actively cooled! SO YOU BETTER WATCH OUT!)

I'm probably gonna just gain a few more Mhz Not much though. Memory is limiting me hard.

Unfortunately, my 9500 PRO doesn't have the muscle to be flexing over 15K as of yet. I may be breaking that barrier soon

No Style, 1110 HDD marks is not a bad score! I usually get around 1555 marks on my HDD setup... so 1110 is nothing to sneeze at!

Nice system Zardon, but I think the Abit NF7 would be better !
Have you overclocked the R9800pro ?
Please post a new 3d Mark 2k3, because the old one has no function. thx

Has somebody tested the arctic cooling copper silent and then the SLK series ?
Because I have a AC copper silent and I have 46/53 degree C and now I think
about a new cooler for my cpu. How many degrees will I go down ?

Sorry for the bad english, and thanks for the help !

My PCMark is too bad to post, because my Harddisk is as fast as my Disk Drive !
