My HDD score for PCMark2002 is 8XX or so. Any suggestions or tweaks I could do to improve this score?
IMPORTANT NOTE: Do not suggest buying anything. I just want free performance increase

Defrag the HDD.
Run a smaller partition for you OS install. Drivers make a difference, try newer drivers, If you are using VIA hardware, there are tweaks that you can try. If you are using round cables, be sure that they are high quality round cables. Good Luck! Just looked at your specs With your system specs 8xx is about the best that you can expect. The 8MB special Edition HDD will get you about 1xxx, and running two of them in RAID will net you about 15xx .... |

I'm guessing
How fast the HDD transfers reads/writes...etc

I doubt it'll increase 3DMark at all.
It will improve anything that has to do with your Hard Drive though. 3DMark doesn't use the HDD much, if any.

PCMark just measures how fast
The HDD is. I'm not too sure how it works exactly.

It's hard to explain..
All I know is a higher HDD score means you're writing/reading your HDD faster. Which means that retrieving data from HDD is faster. Load times for games and such are faster.

Not overclocked..but improved.
If you have a RAID setup, or a HDD with HIGH RPMs you can achieve higher scores. But there are some tweaks and stuff you can do to improve scores, I just don't know them.

PCMark03 -
CPU score: Tests the CPUs ability to process different types of information Each test has a different score value. After the tests are completed ... the scores are added by the amount of weight they hold for the final total. RAM score: Tests the RAM, and the North Bridges ability to read, and write to the RAM, both sequencially, and random access. After the tests are completed ... the scores are added by the amount of weight they hold for the final total. HDD score: Tests the HDD, and the South Bridges ability to read, and write to the HDD, both sequencially, and random access. After the tests are completed ... the scores are added by the amount of weight they hold for the final total. |

I just noticed you have 2 computers . . . is this score for the "NeoZero Ex", or "No Style" ?
I used to have a Quantum Fireball, too ![]() a 20GB KX (7200rpm), and it got 584 PCmarks ![]() on my old setup: Pentium III 600 / Intel 440BX / 256MB PC100

When I am running one Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 Ultra (8MB cache) I get a score of roughly 1080 - 1100 When I am running two of those drives in RAID 0 I get a score of 1520 - 1590 When running PCMark on a VT8233A south bridge ... my scores were much lower, on the VT8235 ... My scores are far superior. Try not to forget that a faster controller, and the drivers that you use will make a differance. |
