AMD Athlon X2 5200+ 2.7ghz overclock issue.

Hi guys, I have the above processor and an MSI K9N SLI V2 motherboard. I have the CPU at 3.1ghz and have no problems at all with heat or stability. Max 100% load temp is plus or minus 45 Celsius. Problem is, when I put it to 3.2ghz, core #2 fails every time. I thought it was an HT Link problem, but even at 3.2ghz, my HT is around 950. My 500W power supply is definitely capable of handling the calculated 80 watts at 3.2ghz and so is the motherboard which can handle up to 90-100w since it supports the 95W tri-core and quad-core Phenoms. I overclock using the FSB. I set it at around 235 or so to get the 3.2ghz. I put vCore to the max available of 1.375v. Can anyone help?

I am just amazed that you can get it that high. I've only gotten my 5200+ from stock 2.6 up to 2.9 GHz.

So the help I can give you is simply that the cpu just can't take more. Mine starts to fail with the FSB at 224 and I doubt that I happened to get a really bad one.

You've reached the limit, that's just the way it is.

Well I've noticed that a few people on other forums can't even get a post at 3.1ghz so I guess I'm lucky. As for you, Liqourice, you might want to turn down the HT Link in the BIOS. It should never, ever go above 1000mhz or it will cause a lot of instability. There has been no known performance disadvantages of putting it down to, say, 900mhz.

Sorry about posting this topic in the wrong place. I didn't bother to look for an Overclockers thread, and I sincerely apologize.

Changing the HT Link doesn't make any difference for me at all so. I've got a shit cpu, that's just how it is.

Re: AMD Athlon X2 5200+ 2.7ghz overclock issue.

I'm having the same issue although its with core #1 Going to try increasing the voltage to 1.4. I was doing a google search to see what the max voltage is for the this CPU. My FSB is 240*13.5 to get 3240 Just put my system together Friday i'm going to try to get it stable @240 and try it for a while. I'll let you know how i make out.
