OCing in a fridge
Suppose I had my PC running inside a fridge. Does this mean with enough power I could get my processor to overclock by huge amounts?
What I'm asking is, is there anything else that impedes overclocking other than the production of heat leading to instability? How much can you realistically overclock a processor that's kept cool, before running into some other problem? Last edited by Crazy Diamond; Jun 2, 2003 at 01:20 PM. |

There is a limit. Just a limit. If you go to Toms Hardware or any of those "uber" overclocker experiments, they've got the cooling out of the way, they still hit a limit.

I tried running a computer inside of a freezer. I needed to get some fairly expensive stuff that would coat all of the componets to prevent condensation from accumulating on them. I got better overclocks than with air cooling, but it was the same as my watercooling set-up, and with watercooling I wouldn't loose the use of a fridge.

the highest overclocks come from cooling solutions such as promethia etc, they get the cpus down to -30-50c allowing massive core voltages to be applied to the processor.
Of course every CPu has a "ceiling" mhz rating which it can not pass even if increased core voltage is applied. I have 2 2600XPs which I have been playing with lately, one will hit 2560mhz at just under 2core volt while the other wont go past 2350, even over 2 core volt. Raising voltages and as a result temperatures to these levels incidentally would require IMO watercooling or a massive heatsink like the thermalright SLK900 with a powerful fan. |

yup, my 2100+ wont pass 2.3 even with more voltage......some have gotten theirs higher.
