Phenom 9850 overclocking issue
Hi!
I am trying to overclock my Phenom 9850 Black Edition. I managed to clock it to 2,75 ghz when I ran on Win XP. The cooling was the bottleneck here. But when I installed vista i cant overclock it one bit without the system hanging. No matter what i do with the voltages and so on. So what should i do? Use OCZ DDR800 RAM 8 GB, Phenom 9850 BE and MSI K9A2 Platinum mainboard. I have ordered Zalman 9700NT cooler. This is the best there is right? I have read many reviews saying so. Also i have extremely good airflow in my case. 2x25cm fans and 1x12cm fan. Also the latest BIOS (1,5) |

Re: Phenom 9850 overclocking issue
How are you overclocking? BIOS or AMD Overdrive?
I gather you're raising FSB and not multiplier since you reach an odd frequency. What are the settings for memory. Is it set to 800MHz in BIOS? If it is and you only raise FSB and voltage it will fail rather quickly. You should downclock the memory to 667 so the memory speed follows the FSB up. Or, you can leave the memory at 800 and only raise the multiplier to reach higher clocks. I can't imagine that you couldn't reach higher than 2.75 if you have such good cooling. I hit 3.2 with my 9850 with a less effective cooler. Open case though but still. |
