Unsuccessful O/C, would like help.

Hello there. I am currently in the process of o/c'ing my setup and I have ran into a snag. I am mainly going for a 3.0GHz o/c that will run cool and stable. I have only fiddled with the core voltages, nothing more (No RAM, No FSB V's, Nothing). I am set at 333MHz X 9 for a 3.0GHz clock currently at 1.3V on CPU Core and lasted 4h 40min w/ Prime 95 @ 75 degrees max. On boot I idle at 25-26 and in OS I'm around 30-35 degrees. I would greatly appreciate it if some of you would like to post some numbers for me to play with so I can get the best possible temperature without sacrificing any stability. Everything will be considered (RAM Timings, Voltages, anything other than necessary replacement of parts.) Thank you for your time and I hope to hear something from you guys soon.

Mobo: EVGA Nforce 750i SLI FTW
V/Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260 896MB
RAM: Corsair Dual Channel TWINX - 2G (2X1024)
Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600
CPU Fan: Thermaltake V1
Case: Antec Nine Hundred
EVERYTHING PERSONALLY INSTALLED
*If you would like any more information on my setup just post and I will get back to you ASAP or
if you would like to leave a comment about my setup feel free, please be positive, it wasn't cheap*

Ouch, 75 degrees when you're only putting 1.3v through the chip? What does it idle at? I'm thinking that those temps are off somehow, maybe try reseating the V1 (its not the best cooler in the world but it should be doing better than that!)

Man, I just looked at your specs, you have nearly the exact same setup I had just a couple months ago. Same CPU, RAM, and Video Card. The only change is I replaced my 8800GT for a 260 GTX. Haha, nice hardware choice man.

Until you improve the cooling there's no idea to look for higher clocks. Perhaps reseating the cooler as suggested can improve things a bit if you clean and reapply paste. I'm not familiar with test results of that cooler but the design doesn't look good so there are several options that should do better unless it's simply a mounting problem. For instance the Xigmatek HDT-S1283 has impressive performance without being very expensive, or the Thermalright HR-01 Plus that I favor for its performance with low noise fans.

Without noticeably improving the cooling I'd aim to get 3.0GHz stably with just a little bit lower core voltage. Doing 7.5x400 rather than 9x333MHz could also provide a small boost. That motherboard shouldn't have any trouble coping with the higher bus clock and with a 2.0 multiplier for the memory it would also run within specs.

Woo hoo, I just figured out what my problem is, a faulty processor! I decided to just say screw it and reset it back to basic temporarily and then run Prime 95. Sure shit, it failed in 1 hour. WTFX? Now, when I turn on my comp the entire system freezes in less than 1 min. Yay. I love my luck with technology.

I've decided to quickly inform you guys that yes my cpu is wonky but odly enough I finally got it stable. Sure, it isn't stable at stock fsb/voltages....but anywho I'm at 1.325 or so at 1333 for a 3.0Ghz oc. It is completely stable and couldn't be happier. Great temps and with the rest of my gear I get 15,000+ benchmark score on 3DMark06....finally my system is up and running.
