??? Overclocking the Core i7 920

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but as long as my cpu temp stays within range, is my overclock safe? Or, am I still running a risk of frying something? I ask because I increased my BClk, whatever that is, from 133 to 177. Unless I'm reading something incorrectly, doesn't my cpu seem to be running at 3.8ghz? I'm using CoreTemp and the temperature stays around 35c and I've not seen it get any higher than 45c under load.

Well, it's been running stable for several hours, even while playing COD5.

Re: Overclocking the Core i7 920

well then, i guess you're fine... nothing to worry about... and a 45C temp is not that high...in my opinion, just don't let it get above 55C...

Re: Overclocking the Core i7 920

You are likely only loading one core with COD5. But if that is all you do with it then fine. But chances are if you load all cores it might lock up.

And 55˚C? That is way low. With 4 cores/ 8 threads loaded getting 55C core temp will be almost impossible if overclocked. Anything under 80˚C core temp and you'll be fine (as long as stable).

Re: Overclocking the Core i7 920

This is what I found on another forum -

Quote:
Maximum allowed temperature for Core i7 is 100°C. If it heats up more, the CPU will enable thermal throttling, i.e. the Vcore and clock frequency multiplier will be forced down to 12x. This feature protects the processor die against dangerous overheating. (source - X-Bit labs)

Re: Overclocking the Core i7 920

I ran 5 test with the Intel Burn Test v1.9, as it seems to do a better job of stressing the cpu, and each test passed with no errors being reported. I'm going to run another 5-10 before I shut it down tonight.
