EEK! Laptop CPU installend in Desktop

Look people im new to this currently I have 2 Ahthalon 64x2 Laptop CPU's. My rig is composed of A8N-SLI Premium, Trion Single core, 4GB OCZ Ram, Geforce 7600 GPU 20in VGA monitor yeah nothing all that special.

Question: Can i install one of the dual cores in my desktop or will i better off just buying a dual core or quad core (if the dough comes right)

IF it is possible what are the parts i will need, and software

Re: Laptop CPU installend in Desktop

you cant install a laptop CPU in a desktop unless you have a motherboard that uses the same socket..... those are hard to find..... i dont think AMD has any vendors that install laptop components on a desktop mobo

Re: Laptop CPU installend in Desktop

best to get a cheap 770 chipset board and a chip like the X2-550. If you get an SB700 equipped board you might even be able to unlock the chip to a full quad.

Yeah I agree, there isn't a whole lot of option on putting those chips in your system. there are very rare cases that the sockets would match but I highly doubt that they do.

Re: Laptop CPU installend in Desktop

Well it's possible. A guy I know has a 5050e in his laptop since the laptop has a AM2 socket. It works fine and it's a really fast laptop now
