Taking off shim and hardware failed questions.
Does this really help? Cause I am about to install a Giant II heatsink from Thermaltake and I wanted to know if taking off the shim was a good idea. And also since I am an idiot just to make sure the shim is on the card itself right? Not on the heatsink you pull off. Thanks guys. Sorry I have been asking a lot of questions latly. Just don't want to f my **** up terribly bad. I am already getting windows has detected a failed peice of hardware. Then my screen res go to like 400*300 or something and the bit goes down to 16 colors. Thanks in advance.

First, check to see if the shim is lower or higher than the core of your GPU. If it is lower, then there is no point in removing it. But if its higher then removing it is quite worthwhile.
Just do it slowly, a sharp needle slowly going into each corner until you can get a thin object in and move it around perimeter. |
