XP 2400+ OCing

lo every 1.

i'm trying to get my cpu to the highest it can get.but i'm always resticted by the 60C mark. when i reach 2250mhz the voltage has to be increased causing temp to rise dramatically. causing instibility. ive tried cpuidle and thats fairly effective but only on the desktop. games cause the temp to increase even more approaching 70C i thought my cooler was good enough becasue it can handle upto a 3400+.
but b4 i go out and by a SLK900 cooler. How effective is it. will it dramatically lower the temp? cos it would be £50 wasted. aslo i noticed that i dont have any holes in the motherboard. will this cause a probelm or is there and adapter available.

FSB 154

FM 15 (LOCKED)

thanks alot.

Si

hi there, welcome to the forum.

Firstly have you got decent case cooling? what are your case temps? buying a better cpu cooler will not help considerably if your case temps are high as it will be circulating warm air inside the case over the cpu anyway.

As for the SLK900 it is the best heatsink out there and I was able to get my cpu to 1.95core under 50c temps with this heatsink, but I have good case air circulation.

Ok, how are your fans aligned? Do you have the front lower ones taking air in, the rear top ones blowing air out, and the side fans blowing air in?

You seem to have a very nice case and a decent hsf so I would first try to reseat the heatsink. Use very thin layer of AS and try not to slide/move the hsf once it has touched the core. I have done the same mistake so I'm hoping it's something simple like that for you too
