a7n8x chipset cooler removal... help me !!!!!!!!!!

a7n8x chipset cooloer removal... help .. i can get the clips off but the themal crap they put under is not budgeing..... it's revision 1.4

never mind heated that sucker up with a hair dryier and it came right off

you should see this thing .. asus should be shot .. the heatsink bottom defonatly needs lapped... the razorblade test failed horrablely .... thing is so un eaven... no wonder that plus the ink themal poop they put down must ultra suck... out to buy sand paper ...

i would but i allready slaped it on and put my system back togeather ....

pm if you rally want deatiled instructions ....

NFORCE2 temp before MOD 30C
NFORCE2 temp after MOD 27C

ecpect abt 25C after as3 sets in


now all i need to do is add a fan and it will do wonders

Polishing or sanding the surface makes it flatter, allowing for better contact, aiding thermal conductivity. In the past, people even lapped their processors, though I can't say I reccommend that.

Nope, the ones with cores sticking out too. I lapped my pIII with 2000 grit sand paper. I did like 3 swirls and all of the black (paint?) had come off and it was very shiny.

i know what are these guys thinking......


oh i wish i'd took pics... that thing was concave and not very flat .... took an hour at 120 grit it take it out .. then i went all the way to 1500 then paper

What a coincidence, tonight I lapped my northbridge too.
I was trying to reach a higher FSB but it did not make much of a difference... Only 2Mhz more.
Didn't measure the temp as I don't have a probe handy but surely the lapping + AS3 should warrant a much better cooling and reliability.

The chip is really concave, see pic here
It took me about an hour to get it near flat, I used 400 grit sand paper. Couldn't find anything higher than 400.

2MHz is still 2MHz. I put heat spreaders on my ram, got a 1MHz improvement and was happy.
