a7n8x chipset cooler removal... help me !!!!!!!!!!
a7n8x chipset cooloer removal... help .. i can get the clips off but the themal crap they put under is not budgeing..... it's revision 1.4

never mind heated that sucker up with a hair dryier and it came right off
you should see this thing .. asus should be shot .. the heatsink bottom defonatly needs lapped... the razorblade test failed horrablely .... thing is so un eaven... no wonder that plus the ink themal poop they put down must ultra suck... out to buy sand paper ...

Nope, the ones with cores sticking out too. I lapped my pIII with 2000 grit sand paper. I did like 3 swirls and all of the black (paint?) had come off and it was very shiny.

What a coincidence, tonight I lapped my northbridge too.
I was trying to reach a higher FSB but it did not make much of a difference... Only 2Mhz more. Didn't measure the temp as I don't have a probe handy but surely the lapping + AS3 should warrant a much better cooling and reliability. The chip is really concave, see pic here It took me about an hour to get it near flat, I used 400 grit sand paper. Couldn't find anything higher than 400.

2MHz is still 2MHz. I put heat spreaders on my ram, got a 1MHz improvement and was happy.
