Coolermaster V10 Failed in less then 8 months...
So as some may know or have noticed, back when AMD and DH sent me out the Excellent Dragon Platform AMD expert kit to fool with, i went with what appeared to be a pretty over the top CPU cooler for the system, with my plan to hit 4ghz+ on it with very low temps.
Well while i was never able to hit a stable overclock OVER 4ghz let alone over 3.75ghz, my temperatures seemed to be VERY low reguardless of the insane amount of voltage i pumped to the cpu (breaking 1.65v and not climbing above 54*C under load). The coolermaster V10 seemed to be running exceptionally well i thought.. However over the last 4 months, i'ved noticed some strange vibrations that seemed to be orginating from the cooler, chcking it over things seem to be well, Audiable noises picked up, temperatures remained still great... Now within the last month, Asus's fan detection is picking up a fan failure on bootup, the fans for no apparent (and without really being noticeable) have completely failed to fire up and spin. Luckily with the combination of the number of ironically coolermaster fans that are in the case (and to NOTE, have never given a hint of an issue for the long running life of a number of years since the coolermaster cosmos 1000 FIRST came out). I'm not sure if the TEC is doing it's job, but the heatsink is basically acting as passive right now, as i type, i'm on this very macine writing this up with utterly no cpu fans working, the cpu temperature running stock voltage/cpu speed and so forth is registering @ 27.4*C So while i'm not so impressed that BOTH of the fans inside the v10 have failed, i am however pleased with the passive capabilities of the heatsink. Noisiest thing in the machine is the ATI HD5770/Nvidia 9600GT at the moment. the 5 other 120mm fans are whisper quiet running about 1800 rpm. My plan is to when things get moving along a lot more here, i'm going to finally take big rig back down to the shop, strip it down, yank the cpu heatsink off and pull the corsair 1000HX PSU out that is also "faulty" and get them RMAed ASAP... Figured i'd post this for interests sake.

If the PSU has been faulty for so long i dont get why you would use it in a nice system like that
Bad power tends to kill hardware, perhaps the PSU is to blame for the cooler failure. |

Re: Coolermaster V10 Failed in less then 8 months...
you are running the system with a faulty cooler, faulty PSU and a mixture of an ati and nvidia board?
seems pretty wacked out to me tbh. id get that cooler off, change the fans, test it out in another system with the header in the mobo to see if the fans work, and put in a working PSU. I know there are hacks to get physX working with ati and nvidia boards, but id just get shot of that 9600GT and get another 5770. or a better (quieter), single card. |

Re: Coolermaster V10 Failed in less then 8 months...
technically speaking, i've only been running the corsair occasionally swapping it for the OCZ StealthXtreme 600watt which ironically, isn't a stellar psu, but gives me much higher overclocks and perfect stability without hitting it's maximum output (basically riding the 600watt mark at full load)...
the CPU fans aren't exactly replaceable due to the way coolermaster designed it, it also requires disasembly and would void warranty. I'd rather RMA then take a chance. PSU wouldn't have a thing to do with the coolermaster fans flying appart, the other 5 fans would have done the same thing if there was a relation. nothing wrong with running various types of video cards in a win7 box... I've been playing with it for the last few months with nvidia/ati, orginally failing to get anything working and then quite happy with the latest "Glen" patch. Call it my test rig if you will, the parts make frequent changes. SSD is going to be arriving for it soon to ![]() Was just pointing out what had occured.

Re: Coolermaster V10 Failed in less then 8 months...
So you can just keep working with the machine using the OCZ PSU and a stock cooler?

Shouldn't you RMA the V10 though? Or can't you.....

What's wrong with the PSU?

Why is it Beeping!?!?!

Re: Coolermaster V10 Failed in less then 8 months...
I'm willing to bet something internally that only causes problems under heavy load hence Judas saying that he gets better OC's with the OCZ
Yeah thats a real bite that both of your fans on the V10 would crash out at the same time. Haven't seen this happen elsewhere so I guess you must have gotten a lemon? With temps like that without fans I'm almost willing to bet that the TEC is at least partially functioning and the sheer size of that heatsink is keeping it cool enough to function normally.

Re: Coolermaster V10 Failed in less then 8 months...
The corsair units are supposed to be really good... and that's a 1000W PSU (known to be good at 1200) so it's not exactly being pushed at 600W.

Re: Coolermaster V10 Failed in less then 8 months...
no but it is even more unstable when pushed to over 900watts
yes the coolermaster v10 and corsairs are going to be RMAed... i'm not going to fix the v10 myself.... can't actually... not without voiding warranty (i stated this above)
