Beer crate case

So, I'm planning to make a PC case out of a beer crate.

Beer crate? (dunno the exact term in English :P) Well it looks like this:

I also have the motherboard tray:

So now I need to get all the 'holders' out of it and place the tray in it

(Well some more modding is nice, isn't it? I didn't see a lot of mods here @ DH)

The Sun mod is awesome (if it's real) and Beck's mod near the end is also really sleek.

Yesterday I made some progress

I cut out the holders for the bottles:

Dremel and some other tools (saw etc) come in handy for this work:

I know it looks rubbish right now, but hey, it's a start :P

btw, I need input from you guys: what's nice to add? Green fans? Green plexi-glass?

Well, I know a beer case mod is done before. However, in mine you can fit graphics cards up to 25 cm (HD5850 for example), CPU cooler up to 20 CM in height (TRUE and Megahalems are 16 cm

) and even a full-ATX motherboard

I will 'make' the case tomorrow in SketchUp so you will get a better idea of it

I was also thinking about engraving the plexi-glass.

Then you will get something like this:

(you will need to add some LED's or CCFL's to the side so the engraved part will light up)

I want to do that with green plexi glass.

Maybe a clear, green LED fan or two? Either that or clear fans without LED's and a green cathode.

I'd go with clear plexi but engraved as you said.

Either way I am sure it will look great and I will be jealous.

Hmm, indeed. I don't want an annoying LED shining in my eyes and into the room. Just a peacefull glow..

I cut the tray some more so it would fit nicely in the crate: (stil lthe triangles because I bumped the tray :| I need to lock it down. The triangles match in real life though)

And I just want to let you guys know that there will be a 92 mm Fan here:

Would it be possible to coat your Motherboard tray with Green Plexi? Then you could put a UV lamp in the bottom with Green Plexi on top for that "peaceful glow"

Wouldn't that look neon green? Not my idea of peaceful if so.

Hope not. I will try to make slides for the tray so you can easily get it out of the crate. You can then install the motherboard and swap it back in

But hey, you've got a lot of space.

1 Flat area to motherboards slot = 28 cm

2 Lower triangle to motherboard slot = 25,5 cm

3 Triangle to triangle = 24 cm

Graphics card is often located on the first slot. So I can install a graphics card which is 28 cm long. Long enough if you ask me :P

Hmm, I think there will be problems with the spacers...

Or where do you want the plexi glass?
